Was watching a few other WFP cleaners and notice lots of people have different ideas in the top frame.

Some say never to clean it as it can leave run downs, others say do it every time and they don't cause problems.

Me personally I do them everytime as I came to the realisation that it saves hassle in the long run.

What's your opinions?

I clean all the frames on a first clean then tops of frames a couple of times a year unless it has a vent or is a fan light the they get left.

Every time -  vents too!
Just look at houses that are done traditionally when they don't do the frames, the top of the frame is where all the c**p is.

Good clean when doing them for the first time then after that every second or third visit I rub a microfiber along
the tops and this keeps them spotless.
The microfiber is clamped to a pole by the way.
Never put water above vents as they can cause problems, some do and some don't but as I don't need to why risk it.

Every time, it doesnt take that much more time. To me, doing just the glass is a bit slap dash.

Every time but ensure water doesn't go anywhere near the trickle vents - thats asking for trouble.

I clean all of the frames each and every visit as that is service i outlined when taking my customers on .

Virtually never, only on a very few jobs where it's actually easier for me to do so- other than that NO!!

I'd be tempted to do the same as it is the most hassle free. But top frames will be black after a few years surely?

That's the reason why I don't do that. I'd get OCD and feel I had to clean the top frame, then once a year or so it would be like having a round full of first cleans. 

I hate just one first clean never mind 300+ lol.

You'd be very surprised. Don't get me wrong, if they are hanging with cobwebs etc I'll take a "dry" brush over them to get that kind of stuff off but I don't wet clean top frames. I've mastered the technique over many years & can clean any window regardless of the top frame without issue. First cleans are not much more hassle over & above normal maintenance cleans too.

I've never had a problem with spotting or runs from not cleaning the top if the frame, the only time I get problems is due to poor seals or poor paintwork which allows dirty water to run downs once I've gone.

There's a bloke on here reckons he cleans vents with the water on full flow and somehow, magically, the water doesn't get inside the vent. I can't remember who it is, but when asked if he could put up a video of the technique we never got one.

I've picked up a few in the same street that the custys said that the guy was terrible. He cleaned them trad and all of the windows were spot on. I asked them is it because he's English that you've sacked him, because your windows look good. It's a shame that custys lie about how bad the windy is when they are following suit with the neighbours.
So I don't think cleaning the top frame is the only reason you have picked them up.

I don't clean the tops I just dry brush the webs.
