This topic is quite interesting. Either that or I'm quite sad.

There seems like alot of variables.

Does it come down to a quality issue or a speed issue?

Do some not clean the top frame because it's just quicker? Or because they worry it's going to cause spotting issues.

There's a bloke on here reckons he cleans vents with the water on full flow and somehow, magically, the water doesn't get inside the vent. I can't remember who it is, but when asked if he could put up a video of the technique we never got one.

Its not me who made the claim bud but i 'usually' clean top frame, around the vent.
I can't remember the last time i got water through a trickle vent.
Certainly not on a regular uPVC stormproof casement.
I run the pump about half flow. If theres a crappy bit in the corner where I'm gonna be more than a few seconds ill disconnect or kink the hose to minimise flow.
Other than that, it's just crack on. I am quite quick ( ) Maybe thats something to do with it?

Perhaps its something to do with the angle of the brush also?

i turn water off swipe top fraim off with a wet brush on maintenance cleans only if rubbers leve runs on most new windows i brush an rinse with water on every window needs a different type of rinse thats my view some need just a quick rinse some need lots of attention

Every time vents as well use van  jets though lot more forgiving on vents

I clean all the frames on a first clean then tops of frames a couple of times a year unless it has a vent or is a fan light the they get left.

Same as above.
Used to do over the top frame but too many windows leak and vents run.

Perhaps that's why you are often disappointed with your results? Just a thought. I do clean the top frames every time and I pick up a lot of work off of a local wfp guy that doesn't.

I've picked up a few in the same street that the custys said that the guy was terrible. He cleaned them trad and all of the windows were spot on. I asked them is it because he's English that you've sacked him, because your windows look good. It's a shame that custys lie about how bad the windy is when they are following suit with the neighbours.
So I don't think cleaning the top frame is the only reason you have picked them up.

I don't clean the tops I just dry brush the webs.

Every time, it doesnt take that much more time. To me, doing just the glass is a bit slap dash.

Cant understand you guys not doing tops. Its part of the window. My bros windy doesn't touch top frame as they have vents. It look rubbish. Use a cloth if you are scared of water getting in. Or turn off water and just use a wet brush

clean vents every time   the more you clean them  the less trouble they are

Clean every time. I always look at the vents on the downstairs as they are a good indication of the top windows. I also always tell the customer that they can cause problems and to check when dry, if they have dripped dirt I come back and do the glass again. So far I`ve had to go back twice in nearly two years. Gamble pays off
