Tank filling
« on: January 20, 2015, 12:34:45 pm »
Just got a new 350 litre tank.
I need to source some connectors to be able to attach my transfer hose to fill the tank.
The transfer hose is about an inch in diameter.
So some form of push fit assembly, one for the tank, fitted into the tank body and one for the transfer hose end.
Anybody know of suitable fittings, Thanks.
p.s! cant fill through the tank cap as the tank is on its side.

The tank is on its side, so the filler cap is now on the front of the tank.
Its because of size,
On its side it will just fit in the estate boot area, Payload is ok but its a temporary measure until the van arrives.
It should have fitted upright but curves on the bodywork prevent this.
Sods law!

Hi Rich,
I see your point, it probably would. Was going to try and seal the lid, ptfe on the threads etc.
It only arrived yesterday so hasn't had a wet run yet, might be a very wet run, ha ha.
I may just have to use it for water storage until the van comes along.
I still have a 175 litre tank and some 25 litre barrels which all fit in the car ok.
How you doing?

Nice one, take care and best wishes.
Was pretty icy down here this morning so didn't need much persuading to stay home and play with the new tank and Gardiners back pack.

Oh don't you start as well! big joke amongst family and friends1
Been saying for ages that I need a van to carry more water.
Sorted a transit connect and lost it to the previous viewer, paid cash about 10 minutes before I went to view.
Sorted a bipper, 35,000 miles and good price x rental but on deeper looking no air con no electric windows so kept on with the old reliable astra estate.
In fairness on most days I manage ok but its the march out cleans and first cleans or one offs that can drastically reduce the water.
I've been wfp tops and lower frames and then just trading the lower windows.
When I started wfp ing the lot everybody started moaning, thinking I was pulling a fast one.
Quite happy now, got a good set up and working pattern, earning increasing all the time.
Nearly matching what my mentor Dazmond reckons to earn!!
How long do they reckon before you can get back?

It will almost certainly leak.
I'd wait if i were you, don't start cutting holes in your brand new tank. You'll regret it when you get a van as you will have another hole that will create problems.

I just fitted a new 400 L upright tank over xmas, when full water still leaked from the filler cap ( but I hadn't ptfe sealed it )

Here's a tip though, I drilled out the vent of the filler cap with a 50mm bit and put one of these in with silicone sealant and siliconed the thread of the screw cap so it didn't leak.

http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Plumbing/d20/Plastic+Solvent+Weld/sd2885/Solvent+Weld+Access+Plug/p13873

I then drilled a smaller hole as a vent and pushed a foot length of microbore into it and sealed that also..

The smaller diameter of the access plug and screw cap takes the transfer hose nicely and does not leak due to the thread being better and the rubber washer in the cap.

Depending on what you use for transfer hose, you could fit a male hozelock on you tank lid, then female hozelock on your hose?
Why don't you have a quick google before making stupid comments?
