There has been a light shower of rain in my area, went out to put the heater into the van and could hardly
walk as it froze instantly on the ground.
Will give it a couple of hours to see if it thaws.
A lot of work in hilly areas this week which doesn't help as I nearly lost the van in the same area a few years back,
it started to slide down the hill from a parked position very lucky to escape without damage to public or van.

That's not good! You mean the van starting sliding down the hill with handbrake on?

Yep, I had parked up hand break on and was just about to get the hose and pole from the back door when it started to move,
I did something stupid which was to get back into the moving van but in the heat of the moment I just didn't think.
It was a side street off a main road and the van come to a stop in the middle of the main road without hitting anyone or
anything and with no other vehicles about at the time, just pure luck.
I honestly thought the weight of the water would give me more grip but I wonder if it was the cause of the van slipping.
Had about 500lts on the van at the time and it wasn't a massively steep hill but the road was like a bottle.

I take it you have summer tyres fitted to your van and not winter tyres

All my vans have winter tyres fitted for this reason, summer tyres have next to no grip in snow and Ice, imo it should be illegal to use summer tyres when the roads have snow and ice on them

Yes just the same tyres as I use all year Scimble, never thought of looking into winter tyres.

Heater in the van overnight.

1KW heater in tank.

Out at 8.00 - including gutter clean. No problems. Plan ahead, it happens every year.

Was replacing the trigger on a pole last night and couldn't understand why there was no flow. Then realised the reel had frozen while I was working on it. Very still and quiet last night so hadn't realised just how cold it was.

-4 is borderline anyway, sometimes you will get away with it then another time it will catch you out and freeze.
I don't go out until it's reached -2 or above.
If you are able to get an extension lead to your van (which I presume you do because of heater) then buy one or two 500 watt Aquarium heaters for your van tank.
I use one in a 350 ltr tank and if left on overnight gets the temperature just warm to the touch which is enough to keep working and has the benefit of defrosting lightly iced up windows no bother.

Same here.  Lovely soft hose too.  It's nice when I'm organised.

I also think the water being very warm rather than red hot helps with the glass icing up issue.
