I keep them in a Quality Street tin in the van... Then, as I use spares, the old ones go into another Quality Street tin.

I do carry spare rectus fittings, I was just using them as an example as maybe not everyone does!
I just don't have spares of 'everything' that pure h2o was referring to.
I live in a small 2 bed terraced house, trust me space is tight, I usually buy what I need and that's it.

I don't care if you live in a shoe box in t'middle o't'road; you must have space for two Quality Street tins in the van.

Iv also never had a problem with delivery costs, in fact I never even paid much attention to it.
Iv never ordered a tecbuk mainly because I thought 50 squid was over the top for a brush. It was only on this occasion when I realised ordering the flocked sill brush would cost almost the same as ordering a tecbuk that I actually noticed it, and decided to give the tecbuk a try.
Over the last couple of years Iv used pretty much nothing other then a gardiners sill brush, which I went through alot of ( 1 every 8 weeks or so) and ordered each and every time without really paying attention to delivery cost.
My poles are gardiners, my ro system is gardiners, hell I may as well sponsor gardiners!
Of course it won't stop me ordering from gardiners, there still the best for most wfp goodies and easily the best for customer service.
It will just make me a bit more attentive to what I'm ordering.

Alex I know you work your ### off to give your customers the best products and best service you possibly can in  the most cost effective way you can. So I'm in no way taking a swipe at your company.
Fed ex prices are out of your hands I completely understand that, as I said I'm just baffled how a price rise is justified when fuel prices are dropping so drastically, so surely are fed ex's costs to deliver items.
Perhaps it's because of less competition (citylink going bust)... Who knows.

Hi Chris

You mention 'a price rise' with regard to FedEx delivery - our prices on our FedEx delivery have not changed at all - where is the price rise?

Price I got quoted to have brush delivered was £7.95, could of sworn it was never that high, unless it was because as I said I never use to pay attention to delivery costs!

Hi Chris

The charge is £7.75 not £7.95 for Fedex - this has not changed.

Of course if you ring the Office team up they can sort a cheaper price for you by changing the level of FedEx service or even sending via Royal Mail - the website is hampered in its flexibility by the wide variety of products we sell within each price range.

Didn't delivery price use to be £5 to UK mainland?
I apologise if this price changed some time ago, I just never noticed.
Since my missis gave up her full time job to do an apprenticeship, on apprentice wages, in November, I find myself scrutinising prices a bit more these days!
I even curse when I buy bottle of coke now lol, bottle size gone down yet price is slowly creeping up to 2 litre price again.  :P

The £5 FedEx delivery charge is still applied on goods valued up to £20.00.

As stated previously if you ring the office they will be able to manually check what the best Fedex option is for each product.

Wasn't the £5 delivery charge for all orders up to £45 in the past? I just don't remember ever paying £7.95 for delivery of a brush.
On a positive note my missis will be in a very well paid job from this November so you can charge whatever you want for delivery from that point, I won't even notice again :)
First thing il be looking to do is upgrade the house and maybe have my very own storage room ;D

I've always found Royal Mail excellent - they always manage to deliver my tax demand before Christmas day every year!

Lol just shows how much attention I paid to my past orders!
She's not Mrs turner yet, we're engaged but holding off the wedding until she's finished the apprenticeship.
Her job will mean I get to spend more of my own money, which is good for you as I will be upgrading just about everything!
And one last thing to bother you with Alex... Do you intend to make any ezpure housings to fit 40 inch membranes?
That's one of the things I intend to upgrade this year, I know they do the champ housings but of course I'd rather buy from you!

Say my rectus end stop goes, there's absolutely nothing else I need to buy, in your opinion I should buy enough rectus fittings ( over £45 worth excluding vat) to avoid the delivery charge  :o
Just an example..

It's an interesting example because it helps to explain why I haven't paid delivery charges ever from Gardiners in just under five years.

If you don't carry a spare Rectus end stop in your van you're on a hiding to nothing.  So, I carry spares.  Always.  Of everything that can fail.  I keep them in a Quality Street tin in the van (not in the huge storeroom I have in my mansion).  Then, as I use spares, the old ones go into another Quality Street tin. Every time I need a new brush or hose or whatever, I order a replacement for all the spares I've used.  I pump up the order to £45 (if necessary) with ...  Rectus end stops, because they are the part that goes most regularly.

Two benefits: I rarely have to stop working for the sake of a part and I never pay postage.

Not having spares in the van is a false economy anyway, as parts are going to fail and you're going to have to buy the replacement sometime, so all you're doing is putting back the purchase date.

Vin

PS. I admit the spare pump and the spare brush head don't fit in the QS tin but they don't quite fill the interior of the high roof, long wheelbase Mercedes Sprinter either; I still have room for my on board dining room with its cut glass chandeliers.

What a simple yet brilliant idea.

I carry spares but have to do an inventory from time to time before I place an order.

Gardiners always have something new to buy so £45.00 is easily achieved.

As regards the op one needs to compare postage costs with downtime. If you get stuck with a broken item and can't earn, a couple of days waiting for a delivery can cost you plenty. Delivery costs are nothing in comparison.

If you need that part, then pay the delivery charge and get the part as quickly as possible. You will 'recover' that cost very quickly once you start earning again. Sometimes you have to make occasional 'expensive' decisions or purchases by seeing the bigger picture.
Success is 1% inspiration, 98% perspiration and 2% attention to detail!

The older I get, the better I was ;)

Just had a look. I was correct. Still the pits for small items. 2 small 40p screws. Royal Mail £3.10. Fed Ex £5. Ya right. This Is why I use Flea bay for small items

Postage cost for the UK for a pair of small screws is actually £1.50 (Channel Islands and Scottish Isles excepted)

We do not make money on our postage or courier charges. When items are over a certain value we do not offer Royal Mail as an option due to the cost of arranging a replacement should Royal Mail fail to deliver - the next day FedEx option is fully insured and is a fully trackable service.

If you ever would like to order something and the website software is not calculating what you feel is the cheapest delivery option then you can ring the office and they can quote for it to be sent on the most economical Royal Mail method if required. If the item is larger than a few small fittings though this often can cost almost as much as the FedEx option. Also this is not guaranteed a delivery time and if it goes missing in transit then Royal Mail make you wait 15 day+ before any claim against them can be made - most of our clients would rather have an assured and insured delivery method.
I purchased them Alex, then went to checkout. This was my option
Just tried again on a o clip. £1.50 or £5

You must keep old receipts for book records. Have a look. I always spend mega bucks with Alex, only because small single items cost more than the items

That's correct - £1.50 for Royal Mail or £5 for FedEx insured next day delivery.  In the real world clients do not order 1 single o clip as whatever you pay for postage it makes it very uneconomical buying.  We try and make a postage courier charge structure that covers most values and sizes of products we sell.  However, there will always be the odd item that falls outside of this structure as used on the website.  This is where talking to a member of staff can sometimes help.

Mmmm, City Link, I called them something else, the first letter replaced by Sh. Terrible.  I live just 1mile from a village centre which itself is just off a busy dual-carriage way. I'm up a single tarmac tracked road and you'd think I lived in the middle of Bodmin Moor when you hear some of the delivery drivers!! Parcel Force &  City Link the worse ones.
FedEx are outstanding, the guy even stops if he sees me in another town &  knows I have a parcel.

That's because it's over 50p. We created the sub-50p bracket for the occasional client that does want just one pair of screws or one small o clip. There are only a very few small products that fall outside the optimum postage bracket and as said before, a call to the Office and the staff will see what alternatives are available.

For the vast majority of clients ordering just a couple of small items does not make economic sense even if only paying £1.50 in postage. Overall less than a quarter of our clients ever pay postage at all.
