Hi  Tosh.

Just set up my pump box.

Used same controller as you.

It's all good the only problem i have is existing on/off switch on pump box has 6 connection terminals, tried to use this but baffled me.

Gonna get a switch like you use.
when wiring your switch Tosh, is it just a case of red wire from crocodile clip goes into switch then a red wire comes out of switch and this connects to power regulator?

Pleased with how it all went pressure switch cuts water off in 2 seconds when kink pole hose.

The pump cycle's/ticks over every 30 seconds when pole hose kinked stopping water flow (is that right?)
never paid attention when it was the varistream

Should of done this over xmas holidays but found a lose connection and put right on the varisteam thought all was well but varistream died friday afternoon.

Barstardized wiring straight from battery to pump and got last job of the day done

That should do it, but I think my switch is in a different place on the wiring.  As long as the circuit is broken with the switch, anywhere should do it.

That sounds okay, but could possibly be improved upon.  Make sure there's no leaks anywhere otherwise when the water leaks from a connection, it de-pressurises the system and the pump will kick in (like yours is doing every 30 seconds).  Another reason for this happening - if there's no leaks - is that your pump pressure switch needs calibrating, which you'll need to do anyway.  This is how to do that...

Attach your pole to the hose reel and let it run.  There's a hexagonal screw at the bottom of the shurflo pump; here...



Adjust this hexagonal screw so the water flows nicely out of your pole - no cycling of the pump - yet turns off the pump pretty much straight away when you kink the hose (or however you turn your flow off).  It's your pump pressure switch's calibration.  It's very simple to do.

You only need do this the once; air temperature doesn't affect it like it did with my other flow controllers.

Both of mine are working great and have been for some months now.  It's lovely to have something I can trust and works every time, without fail.

And for a fiver too!

Definitely a problem re water leakage i'm sorting that tomorrow now i've dismantled pump box i can see and access all the plumbing looks like a couple of o-rings need a good extra squeeze.
there was always some water in the bottom of the pump box at the end of my day that was gradually getting worse.

Now i'm more confident on how it all wires up and works (thanks too you Tosh) i will assemble another pump box soon.

I'm sure i can improve on what i bought.

Thanks for extra diagrams on setting pressure switch etc.

Down maplins tomorrow for switch and then ptfe and crimp all joints; fingers crossed once happy will screw pump back into fixtures in box.

Forget about for along time i hope

I opened up the controller from my ionics system (been replaced with an analogue liquid logic) and it is the same innards as tosh uses from ebay .......i think they charge around £200 for a replacement .......now thats a mark up!

I'm thinking IONICs just produce the same flow controller as I use, but with the only difference they charge £165 (+ VAT):



You can tell if your pump pressure switch is still wired up because there'll be wires going into the plastic bit at the bottom of your pump.

All done.
Pump now cycles every 5 minutes.
Went around all joins and turned the calibration nut.

Run out of daylight; neighbours kid kept talking to me while I was listening out for pump cycling and timing it on my watch

I'm sure I could improve on but miles better and fitted nice little switch near crocidile clip so long as I remember to push switch off then no sparks off terminals when taking on and off battery.

Gonna bolt pump back into box tonight when everyone's gone to bed.

It's quite a satisfying feeling knowing that you've got a similar set-up to what those folk who've paid over £200 for an Ionics flow controller, and you've only forked out a fiver for it.

It's like getting one-up on the Universe.

Got a spare pump from old trolley system I use to use.

Not looking forward to next weeks temperatures maximum 3c tomorrow but at least won't have to worry about keep recalibrating varistream

My current ones are just sat in a plastic box that you'd use to put a plug socket into a wall with.  I've taped them up to make them water resistant and gaffer taped the switch to the box.

They look like some kind of Taliban bomb detonation device; pretty rough.  But they work like a dream.

I've just ordered some stuff from e-bay; a project box, and some posh led on/off switches that'll fit into the box.

I plan to make a posh one for about a tenner! 

Just for fun.  I must be getting old.

Off topic a little, I haven't a clue about anything like this until I read some posts, very impressive you guys know your stuff,

I have a shurflo pump with a dial type controller, it's just left on max - num 10, I was draining my tank into barrels today using hose with small piece of pole hose right into barrells so no waste and it took about 11 mins each barrell to fill to the brim

Would turning that screw at the top of pump improve my flow or is it time to replace, both pump & controller. I don't really rate a controller I would just put it on max and go.

You can tell if your pump pressure switch is still wired up because there'll be wires going into the plastic bit at the bottom of your pump.

I don't use that controller now as I brought a secondhand grippa tank from alex gardiner and fitted a liquid logic analogue controller .

But yes the Ionics system I had used the pressure switch to cut off the pump and to be honest I still use the pressure switch now with controller up full so may as well not have brought the analogue controller .

Will be converting to two man system soon so will use the Ionics controller for that .

Amazing how they inflate the prices , the pump they sell is aquatec and the charge £165 for one !
