the 1200 quid fell laptop I had before lasted 7 months before I binned it .

Really? Why on earth would you bin a 7 month old computer? Even if it cost me half that I would never bin a 7 month old computer.

Oh?

Fair enough.

I have already said, I own a Mac. It's fine, does what she wants it to do but it's not a proper computer, I've tried to use it for work, it was hopeless.

Seems to me like you've decided on an Apple computer and that's fair enough.

Reading your original post, you are concerned about visitors abusing your machine. You should bear in mind that the main drawback of Apple is the over inflated price tag. A sht one will cost you £1k and you're not going to want anyone else touching it.

All these people telling you that they've had their Macs for years - never had any problems - still as quick as the day they bought it - blah blah - are either extremely lucky, living in cloud la la land or just flat out liars. Yes the build quality is good but they have issues just like anything else. I have a MacBook pro (I say I, I mean she). It cost about £1500 a little over a year ago. Recently the OS updated and when it came back on the graphics card was fried. Being just out of warranty I had to argue with the "genius" in the ishop to get it fixed for free. They wanted £300 before they even looked at it but I started making a scene. Anyway they took it for a week and when I got it back it was sorted.

For £1500 I could have had a half decent PC a shtty laptop and a nexus 7 for angry birds, and I wouldn't have had to deal with the jumped up little sht in the ishop who thinks he's God's gift to computing because a clever marketing manager decided to give him the title "genius". Just sayin like.

Just to add, anyone like me who has an ipad2 will know what a heap of sht it is since the last iOS update. They partially fixed it with an update, but the new apps are practically unusable as they are so slow. Soupy is spot on.

I always leave it a week or so on iOS updates.
Then read some reviews.
I think I'm 2 updates behind on iPad & iPhone.

Oh dear.

Not even then. They do lack in functionality but they are good enough for her to do the Tesco shopping on, all you need to do is install chrome or Firefox then at least it works as a netbook.

Had to re install windows several times , wod grind to a halt randomly , slow , always ran hot and was very noisy .........then it started smoking from from the cooling fan .

It was also made entirely of plastic and don't get me started on it updating on every start up , waiting for it to boot up , viruses even
Though it had virus software .

My MacBook is made from metal and is designed to cool down with very little use of the almost silent fan .....the metal acts as a heat sink .

I don't get why you get so annoyed about people liking apple stuff ? Soapy t!t w*%k

I use there stuff because it does what I need it to and it just works , all the time , no messing or waiting for boot up etc .

I don't get annoyed Robert. You're the one randomly calling people names, not me. I have no loyalty to any particular brand. It tends to be Apple fanboys that get wound up in these types of debates not the other way round. Don't worry though, I understand; you've bought your Apple product and you've every right to defend it to people who think that you have wasted your money.

Sounds to me like there was an issue with the computer you bought. The sale of goods act entitles you to a replacement for a faulty electronic device if it fails within the first 12 months.

You can buy better built laptops and can even get ones made of aluminum of that's what floats your boat. That's one of the main advantages of PC s over Macs - choice.

Because it's Apple it's good, right?

Exactly. People purchase Apple because its Apple. Regardless of quality or cost

I buy the stuff I've got regardless of cost, not regardless of quality.

The little red icon? Yeah, it used to annoy me but since I sold a load of work last year, I'm trying to worry less about things that don't matter. (It's kinda working in some aspects of life but not all)
If you wanna check for updates and it makes you happy-knock yourself out.
Being on the next OS won't enrich your life though, will it?

For me, it's the same with the phones. I used to always get the new one because it was new. But I got the iPhone 5 then the 5s I think and the only difference, really, was the fingerprint sensor. Which I turned off ::)roll
I think I'll get the iPhone 8 or such (sooner if they make a waterproof one) and I'd like a new iPad 'cause the children have scratched the one I've got but it can wait.

hi lal i bought a brand new acer aspire laptop with windows 8.1 just before xmas.£230 from asda.its very light and the battery lasts around 7 -8 hours without charge.after a few teething problems  ive got it running very smoothly.

i only use mine for internet banking and shopping, cleaner planner, printing invoices etc and CIU(mainly).

my last acer aspire laptop(windows 7) lasted 5 years with no issues or viruses whatsoever. :)

good cheap budget PC! :)

WINDOWS 8.1 also comes with its own  free anti virus software already built into the system.as long as you have automatic updates turned on and firewall and smartscreen filters you should have no problems. ;)
price higher/work harder!
