office cleaning - do you provide your own chemicals?
« on: January 13, 2015, 12:47:04 pm »
Hello everyone,

Been asked to price up some office cleaning (we were spotted cleaning something else but feel we can provide a service if price is right)

When looking online some of the prices are really cheap (£10-11 inc VAT?  :o )

When pricing, do you include chemicals/consumables in that price, i know the age old 'bin bags are separate' but what about all purpose cleaning, mop heads, bleach, cistern blocks etc?

thanks in advance

I've had a dabble in this and its more hassle than its worth.

Around Glasgow, they want everything included as "the previous guys did this".  The only way to make decent money out of the office cleaning around here is to have a LOT of places on the go close to each other.

Hi
Normally it's an all inclusive price. This is better as you can Use the right things and you control the stock , if you rely on office managers you will get a tin of polish and a dish rag once a year.

Office cleaning kit isn't expensive though , if you microfibre it's a couple of cloths and a bucket cap full of mpc or similar . Maybe a trigger with an antibacterial for the toilets.
Couple of black/ white bags. It's pennies.

Hard floors are different eg pubs etc. lots of mops and floor chems starts to add up.

The margins are squeezed though as suggested and unless you go for more you can't make one job pay, unless you do it yourself.

Its a must to supply your own chemicals, cloths ETC. You have your COSHH to manage and colour codes too.
Janatorial products, waste sacks, bin liners and so on are fair game as extras.

I would suggest you have to include all cleaning materials in the price usually £10-12 plus VAT per hour is average. I would suggest you show separate rate per hour to include bin liners rubbish sacks toilet rolls hand towels ect. including a small handling and restocking fee or show them as a separate cost. Cleaning materials mops vacume bags ect are up to you to provide they do not add much to the total job .

we have just been asked to tender for a job , residential home with comunal areas. Whilst my wife has a lifetimes experience cleaning for others, we have never done it commercialy so are a bit out of our depth so to speak.

I see by other comments that margins are slim unless you do it yourself and I take it that we would privide all materials.
What is the average hourly rate that you would charge?
What health and saftey do we need to complie with? Ie. do we need to attend Cosh course ect?

Any advice would be greatfull

Lakes and Pennine - no you don't need to attend any courses. You do, however, need risk assessments and all staff should be aware of your health and safety policy and briefed on risk assessment also. Colour coding for cross contamination is essential.

Insurance must be provided and we always give a certificate copy to our client.

In response to the original post, we always provide materials used to carry out our job and incorporate it in our price. We also offer our clients some extras so they don't have to worry about us (nobody likes to worry about cleaning their building, they just want the job done).

Any consumables or specialist products requested by the client are priced as extra.

Unless you specify in the contract, that you do not supply the chemicals then you have to supply everything that's how we handle all commercial cleaning contracts

I thin the best it is to get your own products..if got some professional ones..my opinion is that if they provide will be just normal ones..and probably not always on time..

The majority of  commercial cleaning companies will give a price which is inclusive of all chemicals and cleaning equipment.  £11-12 plus VAT is pretty standard across the UK (outside of London).  Of course you should price according to the size of the job as well - if its only a few hours per week you can charge a bit more, if its 30+ hours per week you may charge a bit less.
Shop around for chemicals, prices vary a lot and so does quality so make sure you do your home work.
