Right price for daily office cleaning
« on: April 18, 2006, 11:32:09 pm »
Hi everyone,

We are a window cleaning company in Southampton and one of our offices has asked us if we would be interested in submitting a quote for the daily cleaning of the insides. Its a big building and im estimating it needs 4 man hours a day 5 days a week. Can anyone give any advice on the right price to offer?

Many thanks
Claire

I've said it elsewhere, but will repeat it just for you  ;D

I always weigh up initially (in my head) how long I reckon it's gonna take.  Then, multiply that (number of man hours) by my hourly rate.  You must remember, though, to allow the right amout of time for kitchen areas, stairs, toilets, etc . .)

Golden rule is to not specify the amount of time on your quote.  I no longer do this for any of my jobs (commercial or domestic).  Quote the price, list the tasks, areas, etc, etc . .

If you present just the cost, with enough wording to justify it, they then have only one thing to make a decision on.  If you start breaking it down to 1/2hr for this, 1 hr for that . . . . you're just giving them something to argue with.

The good thing is that, if you initially work it out (for example) at:

£10 ph * 4hrs * 5days = £200wk

you could soon find it only actually taking you 3 hours . ..  so you end up with:

£200wk / 5days / 3hrs = 13.33ph

That's how I'd do it, but I seem to have a 'feel' for what is acceptable for each builiding, so that I and the customer are happy with the deal.

Good luck.

Everyones view of the needs will differ. the ONLY way to be sure is to MEASURE and quote from that. Try the i-Clean module for future reference. It is accurate professional and repeatable.

Hi all.

We run a small company in Plymouth and find Shelton's method the most reliable. We have customers rangeing from night clubs to schools and holiday lets and definately find that way the best. So long as you judge the time you need each day pretty well you'll be fine; if in doubt allow yourself longer each day than you think you need, that way you'll be covered if you do take longer.

Didn't know this site existed until yesterday .......................... glad I found it!!!
Come and talk dirty to us!!!

Couldn't agree more with shelton, I've been doing it like that for 20 years, its not rocket science if you yourself have actually cleaned before, then you get a feel on how long a contract will take to clean, or is that too simple? ;)

Hi

I'm going to be using that method to price as well.  Do you think the following sounds okay to put on my website?

"Our quotes are calculated on an individual basis.  We charge per room, not per hour, so there are no time restraints.  We stay until the jobs done!"

Thanks
Ali

Couldn't have put it better myself, Ali.

I think I'll call it the "me-Clean" method ... .   ::)

I disagree with the idea of measuring the room and charging using that method, although it is consistant it completely disregards other factors such as furniture, bins, doorways and obsticles. Also if a room that measures 4m x 4m is used by one worker then it will create less mess than a 4m x 4m room that is used by four workers. All factors need taking into account, Sheltons formula is a very good one.
