ive used it every day for 95% of my work but top 2 sections completely worn down now and both sections have split at the bottom.got fed up with it today so ive got my emergency pole out for tomorrow which is a 22 SLX BUT resi neck wont fit in the top!its too tight a fit!so ive had to put a carbon gooseneck in the top instead. ::)roll

i think ill buy  2 brand new top sections for extreme as the other sections are ok.do they come with the metal clamping band now?

How the mighty have fallen  ;D

No joke but my extreme is only 6 months old and I'm already tightening the clamps - hope i get another year though but i doubt it.

I think it's  a bit of a joke these extremes wearing down like they do....

Alex Gardiner said it was the aquadapter  that was wearing mine down...well guess what I've took it off the last few months and the sections are still wearing down at the same rate!!!

the new extremes have stainless steel composite clamping bands which should reduce wear on the clamping points mate.to be honest its the 2 top sections that are worn down and cracked and splintered at the ends.the other 3 sections are fine.i think ill keep this extreme as a spare and i will probably buy 2 top sections in time.

i think its a fine balance between weight v robustness in a pole like this.the SLX is a lot more hard wearing if you want poles to last longer.ill be using my 22ft slx today and its perfectly fine but i like an even lighter, more rigid pole as my day to day pole.

the money isnt an issue as over the course of  18 months poling day after day the lightness, rigidity and sheer ease of use makes it worthwhile spending the extra.im hoping ill get 2 years out of the new one with the new bands.

and the old one still has life left in it if i replace the 2 top sections.
price higher/work harder!

Yes, but only 30% of what he pays for it will be deducted from his tax bill, not the total cost, which would in fact mean everything would be free and we all know that isn't the case don't we children  :P

How come only 30 percent ? What about van finance etc I don't understand why it would only be 30 percent fir something you actually need that's of no personal use at all say you earn £16.000 a year and you have 2k worth of recipts fir fuel poles insurance whatever else surely you will only then get taxed on the remaining £14.000?

You're confusing tax bill with turnover Dean.

Daz spends £500 on a pole. He can deduct this £500 from his turnover- so this is £500 he will not be taxed on. 30% of 500 =  150. So Daz has spent £500 and as a result will not pay the £150 in tax that he would have done if he had not spent that £500. To make the point that you shouldn't spend unnecessarily to save tax- it cost Daz £500 to save £150!

Gardiners sell a package ATM , 2x extreme poles at reduced price .
Not sure if these are the old design.
As the new ones have the metal supports ? .

I know Alex doesn't advice it , but can a Aqua-adaptor be mounted onto a extreme still as I can't work without a Aqua-adaptor .

If you take your example, and assume tax is not due on the first £10,000 and that you're paying tax on the top £4,000 of that profit at 30%, so £1,200 due in tax.

Then you decide to spend £500 on a new pole.  Turnover stays at £16,000 and expenses are now £2,500.  Now profit is £13,500.  You're taxed at 30% on the profit in excess of £10,000, so £3,500.  Thus, the tax you pay is now £1,050.

Your tax bill has declined by £150, which is 30% of the cost of the pole.

It's a common misconception that something offset against tax is free (particularly by people not running their own business who think we're on some kind of gravy train) but it's not true.  What you effectively get back is the tax on the purchase.

Hope that clarifies.

Get the top 2 sections, the last one I bought had metal clamping areas which will cut down/stop wear rate.

I have a extreme 47, top two sections broke in half and landed on someone's conservatory, when I informed gardiner pole systems they said nothing to do with us which it isn't, but they should be something on the paperwork  as when  you get your new pole that states , when your pole gets to certain  thickness mm etc then your pole should be chucked away.
