until you lose that 15 job to the other window cleaner after a month who knocks on the door charging a tenner

I don't have my customers based on price.
I make a point of saying to almost all new ones that I won't be cheapest.

Why not employ someone to canvass from 4pm to 7pm five days a week. You could pay £7.50 ph and offer 50% of first clean.
That would cost you about £30 a day plus any bonuses and if you get too much work sell it to other guys in the area.
Of course the biggest problem is finding someone with all the right attributes including reliability.

Half the problem with taking on a newbie is you have to hold their hand for at least 2 weeks, maybe investing 20-40 hours a week on training, then by about week 3 youve either got a half decent person or theyve fallen of the face of the planet. The average life span for a canvasser is about 21 days across the board in all sales industries. Personally I would never pay a canvasser an hourly rate if their working un supervised, What youve said in principal is pretty on the money but factor in the cost of your time and it ends up not great

Again it`s finding the right person. I`ve always told employees in the past that do a good job they`ll be looked after but p me about and they`re down the road. It will involve a lot of  time at the start and will take some checking up on. I keep a log of houses knocked and the results so can spot check quite easily. Even if you have to spend half the time checking that`s half of the time you`d spend doing it yourself.

Its a double edge sword taking people on, No no GavB I'm still about  ;D , had a major facebook meltdown they decided my account was a business and not an actual person so forced it into a poxy useless page. Ive pulled alot of my adverts also as fully booked until Jan 2016. Since 1st Jan this year until now Ive had over 30 fresh enquirees from cleaners. So pretty much just getting my head down and focusing on speeding thru it add in Ive had 5 new canvassers start. I dont get time to breathe at the moment so busy  :'(

I can sort you canvassers for x2 with a 2 clean guarantee.
Or 1.5 with no guarantee.
X3 you are being mugged of or you are trying to mug others off to pay 3 cleans.

I have heard you are not that good as you claim Mick.

We have used wildfire twice now, the first  time was just last month £1008 of 4 weekly work,  with a few more to come on next month. Second time out, Wildfire pulled me just over £1000. We have just done the second cleans and lost 4 jobs out of 59 and im sure another few will cancel on or before the third but we didnt have agro with a single job, we turned up and cleaned everything. Wildfire primed the custy up for bank transfer and within 4 days 80% of the ones that didnt pay cash had paid!!!
yes they are more money than the other guys on here, it works out times 2.7 but you do the first clean before your billed for the work!! so if theres a problem it would be dealt with before you hand over a penny!! The best thing is there prices are spot on and are 30% more than what ive got on my books but to be honest ive brought a few rounds over the years and every round has had decent ish and really crap prices, they acctually got an old custy back on for £8 more than i was charging her i was charging her £12 and dropped her as the price was well under,  and the boys got her on for a score, I will never buy a round again sod paying x6+ im more than happy to pay 2.7 times for the jobs especially when im cleaning them first and the jobs are all booked in and they dont book bad accsess or any head ache jobs either.
Ive had a canvassing company stitch me up before i paid them a lump of money up front and only 25% if that stuck, but i just got names and numbers and im not the best on the phone to be fair but you do get what you pay for, the cherry on top is ive had £250 woth of extra jobs gutter clearence and conservatory roofs on the first lot and on the second lot ive just priced a driveway clean and seal driveway job for £1700.
I dont mind sharing them as ive booked them in every five weeks for the next six months not for so much work just £500 a time so i can cope with the growth, im van hunting now lol
Ive just worked out the job averages for both lots of work
£16.94 first lot
£18.32 second lot
Wildfire Marketing are totally opposite to other canvassers I have used before, im sure all the "you mug"comments will follow but im more than happy with an extra 20 odd grand a year on my round and the phone is constantly going from jobs they priced up but not booked on the day they canvassed so really it swings on roundabouts and im not looking for the cheapest i want the best for me
