Bounced Cheque

Customer gave me a cheque which I lodged. Today they arrived at my door with the cash and said cheque will not go through. Any idea how much the bank will charge me for returning it?

i had this a wile back charge was £3 for a bounce cheque

Depends who you bank with. It happened to me a couple of weeks ago, called the Halifax and was told I would not be charged.  :D

Im with the Co op. Free banking through FSB but im sure they will want something back :(

They should not really charge you, its not you that made the cheque.Its the customer that will pay 35 quid for making out a cheque with no funds.

No charge from Santander when I got one, they just sent me a photo copy of the cheque in question saying it was returned unpaid.

Had one a couple of months ago.  Banked charged me £6.00.

I went to the geezer and told him he needed to pay me the £6.00 charges alongside the original cost of cleaning the window which was also £6.00 (yes, I know). He started whinging saying his bank had charged him £20.00 and asked me to stand the bank charge myself!! I very calmly asked him why I should be out of pocket and effectively end up having cleaned his windows for nothing? He replied "well that's business".

He paid me and I now take great delight in walking past his dirty windows to clean the neighbours either side.

I also with the co-op and had a bounced cheque earlier this year and they didn't charge me anything.

No charges either for paying in any amount of cheques.

Sorry but who would right mind makes out a cheque for 6 poxy squid thesedays. That's just daft to take such a small amount by cheque when they could have paid by cash surely? ::)roll

hsbc charge £4, bloody rip off, the person who sent cheque should pay, all banks should burn
