New Honda IGX 390 engine
« on: December 10, 2014, 11:22:52 am »
I'm going to get a new washer for next year and had decided on a Dual Pumps Delta 250 Bar 15 LPM with return to tank and possibly get the pump uprated to a 21 LPM. Had figured on it costing me about £1600.
Then this machine popped up on Ebay. It seems to have everything I'm looking for and the price looks good but I don't know anything about this new engine apart from what I've read on the Honda website.
Has anybody had any experience of this new engine? Does it have any issues? I'm a bit wary of new technology, still struggling with smart phones!
Any feed back on this engine/ Evo pump / Rutlands would be appreciated.

Delta /13hp wont run a bigger pump (21lpm).
The man at Rutland worked at Dual pumps...he's totally clued up.
Honda don't make IGX  engines anymore...apparently due to lack of call for them.
I have used these EVO pumps all season...seem to be very reliable up to now. Well matched to domestic water supplies in terms of flow and the extra 50 bar means 0.25 nozzles in the flat surface are perfectly balanced in terms of nozzle size.  I use the 250 bar 17lpm.

Thanks for the feedback on this.

On balance I think I will stick with the Delta.

Chris, you say the Delta won't take a 21LPM. I've seen other manufacturers offering 21LPM on the 390 and I'm sure I've read on this site that you can up pump a 390 to 21LPM. Is it the gearbox on the Delta that's the issue?

No it's the engine ain't big enough. Thats why they twin feed them.Save the engine working so hard.
"They say" it's because Interpump have messed up with the pump design (ws202) but I don't believe this.
The manufacturers will not drop it from their range as other people are making them...and it's the pump everybody wants.
Why don't Duel pumps offer this option on a GX390 engine? They are missing out big time...Qwashers,jetmac all the small independents do one.
I use this engine on the bigger pumps ...http://www.geargb.co.uk/product/3000-BRIG-14Q/Briggs_and_Stratton_14HP_2100_Series_Keyway_Shaft_Engine

What is making you happy enough to be going down the no reduction gearbox route?

Gearbox will cost you  about 1hp ....Thats 10% of he power of the already underpowered gx390!
Pump only cost £350 ish...if I get 12 months from the pump it will do . Throw it away and fit a new one.
The direct drive  pump I fitted is still fine and it's worked most days this year no problem. I cannot see any reason for fitting a gearbox.
