cleaning external commercial windows from the inside?
« on: December 08, 2014, 03:30:29 pm »
i've taken on a new office which is looking to get the external windows cleaned with us. I've gone to a couple sub contractors who has been unable to do this due to the tricky location with no footpath so just a main road on one side of the building, and a river on the other with a very tiny footpath but no way to have a system there as far as i understand.

I'm not wondering if there is decent option for cleaning the external side from within the office? unfortunately the windows don't have any gaps between the part that opens and the hinges, so reaching around will be a right pain.

any suggestions what we could try?

It sounds like there may be no cheap enough options.
A cherry picker from the road and closing down part of the road plus wfp from a boat sound like massive overkill.
Maybe get a quotation from a company that cleans by abseiling?  There are a few that do that.  Alternatively, just tell them to keep the blinds closed.
Sounds like yet another architect requires shooting.  I reckon that part of the qualification for being an architect should be a mandatory one year's window cleaning.

How deep and fast is the river?
Could you create a scaffolding platform in the water to stand on?
I'd be surprised if a boat would be stable enough to pole from to any height.

the trouble with this site is there is only about 20 windows in total so seems like over kill to do all you've mentioned.

In that case, you need to tell them to phone S.E.P. Ltd to carry out the work.  They are very good at jobs like this.

S.E.P.  somebody else's problem.

If they are not prepared to pay the high rate for the appropriate cleaning method (and I would not blame them for that for a moment) they will just have to put up with dirty windows.  If they *do* agree, maybe get them to front all the setup costs before work goes ahead as it could cost you dear if they decide not to pay.

Is that you or Trevor?  ???
 ;D

Yes but you are standing on a sandbank, a scaffold platform is a whole different aspect:
River bed foundation, time of year, access, tidal or non tidal, permissions, river traffic, set-up time etc
He's a window cleaner not the REME.  ;D

Eyebolts and safety harness could be an option if the windows open up enough could be an option.
The bill for installing the eye bolts would be passed on to the owners.
