I pay cheques in within 4/5 days but due to wasted time taken to pay in at the bank & bank charges im thinking about doing banking once every two weeks.  I only get about £100-200 a week in cash as most pay by bacs, paypal & D/D.

Do you think its acceptable to pay chques in 14 days after receiving them

I could update my payment slips telling customers that cheques are paid in after 14 days

Pay them in whenever you please. Think 6 months is some banks limit.

I've just paid 3 cheques in that we're nearly 3 months old. (Only 3 x £12 that I misplaced)

I would just do it without telling them.  When cash flow isn't an issue I sometimes take that long or even longer.  If you start saying that you will take 14 days, you might feel obliged to wait that long even if you need the money.

I use the ATM and bank cheques every Monday morning on my way to work.

I wouldn't worry about when you pay them in but I'd get them paid and cleared before you do the next clean.

Paying in cheques is just a pain and at bank charges of £1.50 each cheque im trying to cut out all cheque payments.

Get a free for 18 months business account as a sole trader with (for instance) HSBC.
PAY ALL THE CHEQUES INTO THERE.
18 months later, when the deal runs out. Swap it to a joint account for another 18 months free.
Then walk away and into...Nat West. Same there.
That's 6 years of free cheques going in.
Try that with as many banks as you can.
BACS it over to your main acct whenever you like.

Some banks get funny with cheques older than 5 months,... limit is 6 months. I had a few fall down behind the office unit and got discovered near the deadline, just proves I don't pull my furniture out to hoover up

Just stop accepting them.

£1.50 to cash a cheque is a liberty. Don't let your bank away with that.

£1.50 is to much of a charge for any payment. Electronic transfer is free for my acc but anything else ie FP SO DD is around 50p

yup ive been a free banking sleeper ... NatWest, Barclays and one im with now ... current banking deal ends April 2015

I only get paid by cheque once in a blue moon.I pay it in within a few days.

I pay my cheques in weekly every Thursday...

However - The other day amongst some paperwork I found a £40 cheque that was 5 months old!

I cashed it... The customer hasn't said anything (yet).

I pay in cheques when i have the time. Usually every couple of weeks. You dont need a set amount of time to pay it in. Dont worry about it.
