Ps. Is a debt still recoverable if there is only a verbal agreement between us and the client?

If not i'm seriously going to rethink how i go about taking on new clients..

not yet. i've been to see the client today who agreed to pay within 7 days. I'm not expecting it though as after 4 phone calls and a text with no response i had to knock on the door with no apology at all.

I had problems with a couple of customers, after having tried to get my money,by the normal routes, like sending a polite note requesting payment, then knocking of an eve when there home,if I'm fobbed off each time,I go down the small claims court route, will cost you £35 pounds if they pay your costs are added to the total owing,if they don't pay they will have a ccj against there name, whilst this will have cost more money I'm happy to pay it as it's a matter of principle.
Then leave it a few months go round one night when walking your dog,and key the side of there car, will cost cost more than £250 owing .

Fin.

Alot of guys use these
http://www.thomashiggins.com/pages/collection-process-stage-one.aspx

£2 for a legal nasty letter i think statistic is 80% pay up when they get this letter.

then you have the option to take them to small claims court.

You have to register with thomas higgins which involves email'ing copy of proof of id and address.

I registered with them but never had to use them.

Send custie a letter asking for payment otherwise debt will be passed on and recovered by thomas higgins

thanks lee

Cheers Lee, im going to try Thomas Higgins after my letter. Let's hope this prompts em to do the right thing and pay for a job done. You wouldn't believe this customer she was 'apparently' giving my bills to her husband who was supposed to be paying from his work. She didn't even say it was his fault on the doorstep and said to me 'it's a lot of money Over the course of a year!' So I said well if you paid each time it wouldn't be such a problem. This is for 6 cleans. I partly blame myself for letting this get to this but I was hoodwinked into thinking this client was genuine after all she teaches at a private school, rents a 500k house etc. Never ever again.

Fin.
When you send her your letter make sure to mention that if she doesn't pay the debt will be
Taken over by thomas Higgins solicitors.

That way if she thinks she'll call your bluff then a shocks coming.
I bet she pays when thomas Higgins send their letter.
As you said she is a teacher won't be happy with the thought of small claims court.
Good luck mate.
Let us know what happens.
Looks likes Colin's the expert on small claims court.
