Tightening Gardiner Pole Clamps
« on: December 02, 2014, 02:59:04 pm »
Hi All,

I have a Gardiner SLX25 pole (its an SLX2)... It seems impossible to tighten the clamps by turning the bolt that you are supposed to turn - All the bolts seem seized.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Any fixes?

Thanks,
Andy  ;)

If the adjustable nuts are slightly tight then this is usually caused by the nylon in the nylock bolt being slightly tough. It can be sorted by using a small adjustable spanner to turn them. If you tighten them up a few complete turns and then loosen back off a couple of times this will cut the nylon thread in the nylock nut and make them finger adjustable.

If this doesn't sort it then please drop me an email  :)

Thanks Alex... I'll give that a try tomorrow.

Also worth cleaning the threads on the nuts as they can get full of dirt.

Yeah have same problem, not really able to adjust "on the fly" by hand.
But not so much of an issue, as Alex has suggested, I just carry a mini  set of mole grips in the back of the van. ;)

You shouldn't have to do this all of the time. If you follow the steps above and cut the thread through with the bolt a couple of times it should make them finger adjustable for future use  :)

If this does not work for any reason please get back to me and we can sort for you.

Some of my old slx poles which I swapped the clamps on are tight as well but at least they don't spin anymore.

Old slx poles with new clamps won't even take some electrical tape at the bottom as a stopper as there isn't enough clearance as the tape just jams up inside the clamps, so I colour sprayed the last six inches of the poles and lacquered them, that works just as well.
