Hi guys, I'm looking to employ someone very soon, just wondered if anyone had tips on maybe ideas on how to find people that are looking for window cleaning work? and tips on choosing the right person.

jobcentre advert works well state that experience is required you will get loads of enquiries sent to you without neccesary experience but ya will get a fair few with relevant experience, get references hold interviews then call a few back who ya like take them out with you and watch how they work

I'd disagree - we never take on anyone with experience, too many bad habits etc..

in scotland you have to go through licensing process first. this costs money along witb insurance. bit of a pain to be honest n could cost  you a few quid as you go through workers

Having the right kind of personality to be "the boss" - to motivate & encourage whilst still laying down the rules - to handle the extra stress that comes with even the best employees - to be up to date with all the regulations & requirements - to put systems in place for relatively simple "common sense" things that a new employee might not understand - to be uber organized and maximise the profit your employee makes for you - and to simply handle the added responsibility and potential liabilities that come along with employing - -  - if you can get your own act together properly in these regards then you'll be able to train in and deal with a wider range of characters & finding the "right person" will be less of a challenge.

I don't think I'm a naturally good manager of people... I've been a bit too soft in the past.

Having people working for you is a MASSIVE learning curve!

Agree with Nat.  Im finding the better i am as a manager, the better the work is.  Theres almost just as much effort required from you. The great thing I find is that knowing I'm paying someones wages is a great motivator for working hard and being well organised.

I'm the same, been to soft and too matey with the guy I've just let go.

Unfortunately being a nice guy and mate to your employee doesn't work when you are the boss. That's what I've learnt. That's not to say you have to be a tyrant but well you know what I mean.

I'm glad I've gone through the process of being a mate to an employee it's taught me so much and now I won't make certain mistakes again.
