Has anyone used a metal tank for van? Would it be a bad idea? Ive met a chap who makes all kinds of fuel tanks and stuff and they are really smart. Im looking into him making me a system...just wondering...

Not sure about it being a problem, but it will probably be a lot heavier than a plastic one..

As long as its galvanised (rust proof) i wouldn't have thought water contamination would be any more a problem than with a platic
If anything you've got less chance if any algae growing as it'd be opaque

We know what you mean but releases is the probably a better word. Plastic retains (insulates) heat better than steel.

I would be interested in what he quotes you for say a 400 ltr tank.
Considering the tank would have to be either galvanised or stainless or aluminium, fabricated and welded I would expect it to be at least double the price of a Wyedale plastic tank.

I'm sure Brodex tried stainless tanks sometime ago, had problems with welds splitting. I looked into having one made and although the fabricator was confident his welds wouldn't split the cost was around a grand. Custom fit to fill all the van floor, thus allowing plenty of room inside.
