well got my first cracked window today, customer is fine about it and im going to have to replace it but ive never cracked a window before and wondered if this is because of the hot water im now using making the glass more prone to cracking, im not running it scolding hot at all just lukewarm!

If your water is only lukewarm, even 20-30 degrees, I can't see how it would crack a glass unit in this weather, too mild!! Blimey, was the house really an enormous fridge unit?

I don't suspect the lady's got no reason to lie they didn't look short of a bob or two but who knows!
At the end of the day I thought better to just get it replaced than to argue and get a negative comment for my business.
I've managed to get a local guy to do it for £40 supplied and fitted which I thought was really cheap so I'll just take it on the chin and move on but I'm worries about using hot system again now! It's been doing a bang on job lately too.

agree with stercos, its far too  mild to cause thermal shock, could just b e a weak spot and you have been unlucky

I clean with hot and never have had anyone say I cracked their window

I think maybe she is pulling a fast one if you ask me

We've broken one or two windows over the years, usually older type windows, thin glass, poorly fitted or generally just past their best.

I don't think we've ever cracked a upvc double glazed unit.

If it was a downstairs window you could of argued that is wasnt you, could of been a number of things but as its an upstairs  window and on the outside pane not much you can say,

cheers guys i went round took a look and its on outside and theres not much i can say really the customer is still paying me as i offered half price clean for inconvenience but she was stilll chuffed with the clean windows as always so is paying full amount which was £20 so ive lost an hours work and £20 out my pocket, couldnt bring myself to using the hot system today with fear of cracking windows.
just cant understand it,maybe it was ready for going and me putting brush and hot water on it just made it pop, theyre not new windows either, the old type where you take them out from outside!

I know pal I loved it and it's changed wfp for me but this cracked window has given me worry's, I'm gonna use it again tomorrow and turn the heat down even more and see how things go😉

Maybe if there's a slight weakness in the glass then hot is going to effect it, I also wouldn't have thought that
the outside temperature would be cold enough yet to cause a crack but from looking at the picture I cant see any
clues on what else might have caused it.

I was accused of cracking a double glazed unit not with hot water i might add but accused none the less, im quite a handy chap so replaced it my self,  the unit itself was set in wooden frames ant when i got the old unit out it was quite clear to me that the unit had actually ben damaged by the installer he had hammered one of the pins through the wooden beading and just caught the edge of the glass and caused a very small crack which under neath all of the crap of this 1st clean went undetected, it was then that the custy accused me of cracking it, when i showed the damaged unit to the customer afterwards she poo poo'd my findings and sacked me as her window cleaner, so i only ever got to do 1 clean ( a 1st clean ) that job actually cost me money.

That's very unlucky for you Chris, especially when it was not your doing, as window cleaners  we occasionally get blamed for other
people's cockups, that's one of the main reasons I refuse Builders cleans.
