I am in the process of quoting for a town centre clean and wanted some advise on getting the costs right. I have been there for 4 hrs today measuring to get these sizes right. 8,968sqm of block paving absolutely covered in gum and 6,847 sqm of 5 different types of granit stone setts which the gum has managed to mostly avoid but there is staining here and there. I'm thinking of using liquid poultice for all the granite to give the best results. They require a non destructive method on the granite hence the reason for using liquid poultice. Any advise would be much appreciated.

What kind of staining is on the granite?

Granite is one of the hardest/dense stones around. Most cleaning chems will be suitable and wont damage it. Just need to know what the stains are to know what chems to use.

Let somebody who knows what they are doing have a look at it... it will save you a load of grief and you will earn more.

The granite just has general food and drink stains but also some rust where some metal bins are. I have made them aware that the rust is probably permanent ect. I won't be subbing this job out chris Scott and am looking forward to the challenges it will bring. This job will bring in more areas within the town if successful.

The sgains should come out no woŕries. Just do a test. Shouldnt need poultices.

I did not say sub it out. I said let somebody who knows what they are doing have a look at it.
There will be no need for poultices (maybe except for the rust) so there is a saving (a large one!! in terms of materials and labour).
Non destructive method for granite ? I don't think you have anything to worry about there  .
General food and drink stains....Hot oil is by it's nature one of the most searching liquids. The granite will be ok ..what about the block paving?
Chewing gum is another matter.

If it was me, I would work out roughly how much you can get done in a night shift (you should know how much you can clean normally and then add on some hours for the gum depending on your machine set up)
Work out diesel, for the hot box and machine, diesel for the van, wages etc.. I'm sure you know all this.

Charge a day rate. You might not get as much done in the first couple of nights, but you will soon get faster, and build up a technique that suits the job.

No way would i be charging per m2 for this type of work. I don't even charge per m2 for driveways.

Dunno why he came up with that excuse that he gave you. He works for me, it was his own machine for when I have him going out doing clean ads. He owes me money so called it straight.  Was funny though when he was telling me! hahaha

  yep... Council have messed up with the figures big time ... as per norm

you will need to keep an eye on the vans in that area

[the council have asked for a psm price and a discounted price for the whole area because depending on price they might only have the worst parts done. I think the reason for the gentle approach on the granite is because vehicles have already damaged parts of it and they don't want it made worse by high pressure cleaning hence the reason for the poultice approach

How do you know it's that mate? Take it you've seen them working?
It's supposed to be 25,000m2 done now then the other half next year. Think they've just done 25 in 3 weeks.
