Winter tyres!

Anyone used them? I have a rear wheel drive Hiace, think I may benefit. Any thoughts please?

Do it.

I live at the top of a hill with a 90' bend halfway up, when ever it snowed it was usually me and my son who ended up clearing the street.

Bought some winter tyres in 2012, never got stuck once, thankfully didn't need them last year.

'Scuse my ignorance, but you just swap back in the spring and store your tyres in the garage? Who swaps them back for you and what does that cost?

ATS hold my tyres on the car.
£20 for changing & holding. So £40 a year.
I could keep them in my garage at home but it'd still be £5 a corner to swap them over.

It's just the internet. Try not to worry.

Yes, I just keep the tyres in my garage, I go to a local garage to get them swapped over, costs me £7.50 a corner. I know of some who have their winter tyres on a spare set of wheels, so no charge to change tyres, just swap the wheels over.

Sounds good my old Hiace was useless on snow if there was a slight slope but good fun when on the flat

That's how it's done here.

Have to make sure if you take them off the rims, the direction of rotation. !!! Deadly if you don't, that's why just about everyone here has them on another set of rims.
No still don't understand, I must be thick

Both winter specialist companies, Nokian or my favourite vredestein work exceptionally in the winter and vredestein extremes can go right through the year, average 35000 miles no changing over.
They are classed as a winter tyre but loads of people use them all year because of there longevity
Oponeo is the cheapest place to order them

You can get All Season tyre as a compromise, the following link is from 2012.

I run winters all year but only do 8k, I notice considerably more tyre spots on the bodywork during the summer months!
