Just had a commercial job i had booked in tomorrow cancel due to painters not finished.
So i am going to service my tm for the xmes rush.I have never descaled the tm before.If i add a few bottles of vinegar to the heather box and run machine,then let sit overnight,would that do it?

Not sure what a 'heather box' is - sounds that something the gypsies sell possibly as a Christmas bumper present.

As Simon mentioned - use the Prochem stuff - follow the instructions on the 'tin' and it will do all you need

Afraid not correct Steve.   99.9% of t/ms' have final stage chemical injection.  You need to to get through the whole system

 I had to look it up  

 The prochem stuff is sulfamic acid  ... you can get it from mistral  etc also but its not expensive from prochem so probable not worth sourcing it  ... although who knows what concentration your getting from prochem .

Many of the Coffee machine descalers are the same stuff  ...  they wont wnat to damage the Gaggia after all  ..    

The kettle stuff ? ... it might be mostly citric or lactic or a combination of acids .
The sulfamic might be chosen for being less harsh on certain metals perhaps ... although is a HE stainless steel , figured u could throw anything at that ?

most of these type dishwasher descalers contain hydrochloric acid and can cause all types of problems, its safer not to use hydrochloric acid based ones, just google food grade acid descalers.

Oust  .. is one of the most popular domestic descalers ?  its lactic acid . 
perhaps some others use hydrochloric  ...

cant see why he'd need to import food grade descaler from holland  ...  and thats likely to be a bag of overpriced citric acid .
What does it matter of its food grade or not ... hes not sprinkling it on his chips .

Hi John, i can assure you there is no hydrochloric acid in the descaler i was recommending for Brendan, if you want to do another bit of detective work and find a safe descaler i can put you in the right direction, Regards Tadgh
