How do I clean my 1000L tank
« on: November 02, 2014, 05:48:39 pm »
I've just bought a 1000 L tank at it seems like it's had some sort of oil based product in it.Any ideas as to what I should use to clean it out with?
It has about an 10" diameter lid on the top

Hi Darren.I've tried that.but it still feels greasy :-(.
I am thinking about a few bottles of Fairy and a mop?  ;-)

Depends on what was in it, I'd go for bleach 5 ltrs then fill  - leave overnight and drain, rinse then 1/4 fill with pure, drain taking some TDS readings

I bought one off ebay which had had some sort of glue in it, was told it was a water based glue which would easily wash out, but when it came it had a thick layer of glue all over the internal sides and floor which needed scraping off. In the end I had to cut the top of the ibc off and get inside it to clean it.
I reckon this might be the only way that you will be able to clean yours properly.

Lesson learned though, never buy used ibc's that have had glue or oil based products in as they are impossible to clean properly without taking the top off.

Did that as well, brought one locally picked it up in the dark  ::)roll
Lovely tank, just had glue residue all over the inside, sold it on to a gardener to store rain water, will only get ones filled with fruit juice or brand new now

How about using a citrus degreaser in either a backpack with lance or a pump up 5 ltr garden pressure sprayer and then rinse out with a pressure washer or mains tap and hose pipe.

Forget using bleach, that wont do anything, you need a strong de-greaser. TFR and plenty of water, iv used the pressure washer in mine a few times
