Hot Box problem
« on: October 31, 2014, 06:29:15 pm »
Using 21l hotbox on a chewing gum job for 5 days.
day 1 and 2 runs ok.
day 3 and 4 starts cutting out intermittently, running well for first hour then puffs out smoke and cuts out. turned it off for 5 mins then when turned back on runs ok for another hour or so. running ok at a lower temp but as soon as temp increased smoked went cold.
day 5 gave up and finished with cold!

Help please.

Could be the fuel pump. It's mechanical, spins and draws fuel up the line. There should be a small brass grub screw in the top, this is a bleed. try loosening it off and running it, does fuel come out? Had a similar problem and it was the fuel pump. Think they are about £50 - £60 and easy to replace.

Also clean the electrodes. You need to get a meter out and see what it looses on the contact when it cuts out. Does the flow switch still have the spring in ?

Just messing  about, not selling it.

I have got a 15lplm hot box in garage that cant get working. If you want a project you can have that for £100 sits on a frame I had made.

Sounds like it could be drawing in air in the fuel line somewhere.... check round your fuel line fittings towards the pump and look for small air bubbles (if your fuel lines are clear) if not then change them to 1/4 clear braided hose, it will make things easier. Also for what the cost, put a new filter, nozzle and electrodes in. After these you need to be looking more towards your electrical circuit (flow stich, solenoid, thermostat). Also you may have a fuel filter in your fuel tank that could be clogged up, causing it to draw in air at weak fittings.
