I turned down a £280 regular job because they wanted me to use ladders and I refused point blank. Haven't picked up any ladder jobs in twelve years now and nor will I in the future

i very rarely  post on here but I just felt I had to on this thread......
do the maths.....

how often is the clean? say once a month @ £40 = £480 per year
are you prepared to risk serious injury or possibly death from a bad fall of your ladder?

surely not,
now I don't know what your earnings are but lay say you are doing £1,000 a week
if you were to fall from a ladder you would expect to spend at least 6 months off work to recover from broken bones so therefore loss earnings of £26,000 (all for £40) ???

its never worth it buddy, if you don't feel safe doing from a ladder then that means ITS NOT SAFE  so don't do it

I once quoted a guy £200 to clean out his gutters but one part of the house was 3 stories high and I told him that I could not do that section as my ladder would not reach it

he replied that he had a ladder in the garage that could reach it and I was welcome to use it
my reply to him was that I was prepared to clean all the others gutters and he could do that high section himself using his own ladder

he then replied that he was not prepared to climb that high on a ladder as it was dangerous

so I replied with ..... but you would happy for me to put my life in danger then?

suffice to say I did not get the job and lost £200 ......
or did I lose £200?? the answer is no because 3 years down the line im still in good health and making lots over £200's

if it don't feel safe ITS NOT  so for Christ sake bin them and spend your healthy time looking to replace the £40 job

Good Post Jay, I couldn't agree with you more, what is the point of investing thousands of pounds in WFP for peace of mind
safer working, then letting the customer dictate that you use life threatning Ladders because they prefer it done trad for a
measly few quid.

Best regards
Lal

If you cannot convert tell the customer you will clean off a ladder if be takes liability and  responsibility if you fall. I remember a looking at the law on this matter and it said you need to change if there is a safer method. Which you have done so ask them to sign that they accept liability. This changed my diehard few.

Go out and canvass, try to get x3 customers at £10 monthly and you've got your money. Or x2 at £15 etc. you will pick more work up, don't worry about dumping this one it's not worth it!
