Can the hoses be driven over?
« on: October 24, 2014, 11:19:18 am »
Can the waterfed hosepipe be driven over without damage? Just thinking about going accross a street to do a house, if someone drives over it, would it damage the hose?

It's fine mate; you wouldn't want to be doing it all day, every day but it's fine for short periods.
Come and talk dirty to us!!!

I generally don't run hose over a road were people are likely to exceed 20mph , tried that once and hose was almost ripped in half

I'm the same.

Slow residential roads it's fine, nothing too busy though.

Get the backpack/trolley out if you need to.

I used to do it and my lads do it all the time.  Provided it's not constant traffic and relatively slow it takes a long time for damage to become severe.  When it does, take the hose off the reel and wind it back on from the damaged end, that way the damaged bit stays wound on the reel for most of the time and you start working with a new bit at the business end ;)

I use the yellow 8mm hose from pure freedom it's been driven over many times, last week it was driven over by a loaded dirt lorry, that stopped the flow, but it's still ok,maybe I've been lucky

The only time they get damaged is when you run the hose over the road near a corner.

When a car drives round the corner it scrubs the hose on the floor.

So try and avoid corners on roads.

It's O.K. unless your like the windie who used to clip his hose tap to his belt holster and when it got caught up in some car wheels it dragged him out into the road!!!

I use the same stuff - working on a new build site I let about 40 fully loaded dirt lorries run over the hose.. Doh!!

New hose needed... Looked like a garden sprinkler when they'd finished!

Cars n vans fine, not so sure about lorries

Only time holed a hose is when there is grit on the road or car park.

Hot weather makes the hose soft and very pliable; it's wise to be a bit more careful during hot spells.

I have the re-enforced hose and it stands up to buses and cars.  I did get a hole in my old hose but that was not re-enforced and old.
