Has anyone else been approached?
« on: October 22, 2014, 10:34:08 am »
Recently we have been contacted by WHICH?

They want us to join their new scheme "WHICH? Approved Trusted Traders!"

1.  I was wondering if any Forum members had been approached?
2.  If so have you joined?
3.  If so has it done any good?

We get a lot of this from the likes of YELL (HIBU), MYHAMMER, Checkatrade, FMB etc all of whom I decided against!

I am however, debating Which because although they charge £40 + VAT a month the first 3 Months are free and you can pull out anytime including the first 3 months without notice so in effect it is a 3 Month Trial Free of Charge.

Any Thoughts / Comments?

Kevin,

No approach from "Which" but after being a member of Check-a-Trade for 8 years until August this year, I left by mutual consent, Don't like having the pi**taken out of me, free memberships and entries into the directories being given away and some members not having PL Ins, is taking the pi** in my eyes and after a conversation with there CEO it was best I left, so for me these "Trusted self regulating " sites are starting to get a waste of time IMO. I could also count on one hand the amount of equerries we were getting from CAT as they are now at 15,000+ members so the pie is bigger but the slices are getting smaller.

Don't join any of them schemes. It's just lining their pockets.  If no one joins then no one is any worse off. Heard nothing but bad things from these schemes. Just another money making racket.  Word of mouth or website is all you need.  Waste of money.

In my humble opinion, I would say that all of these sights are just a tax we are paying for services that are already out there and we should avoid them like the plague they are.

How can someone who has never met you or seen the quality of your work recommend you in these schemes.
Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.

With CAT, the customer fills in a feedback card after you have done the work, so that is how your ratings go up, the more cards the better position you have on their website.

My issue with cat were the members and family and friends filling in their own cards.

And they most probably still do Bill, the set-up became a joke as far as I was concerned.
