What do you do about non payers?
« on: October 21, 2014, 07:30:04 pm »
As title. Is there anything you can do? Has anybody genuinely egged their windows? Its only £30 and I know you will say move on but they live 5 doors up and it stresses me when I drive past.

She works in the court? Its obvious what you need to do then. Get a letter off from Thomas Higgins.

I've only really lost it once - quite recently when I emptied a spay can of G101 over the front of their house. Another time I wrote and threatened court action but generally I move on - probably lose two to three hundred a year in non-payment.

We just usually knock on the door and ask for it.

I call a few times, and if I am given a different excuse each time, I realize that I am wasting my time and effort on them.

It may sound as though I should follow it up, and this is true I know, but I would just get seriously stressed, angry, and more disturbingly perhaps, inclined to do something stupid in retaliation.

But two wrongs don't make a right, so I cull them there and then and concentrate on looking after the decent customers I have who appreciate my service. I have several good friends who are also window cleaners in my town, so I forewarn them to avoid those who have stung me. Their chances of getting another decent window cleaner range from slim to impossible.

Knock every night at exactly the same time-perhaps 9:05pm.
Knock very loudly. Very loudly.
Always be cheery.
Never feel that you are being a nuisance. It's them causing nuisance by withholding payment for your services.
Even better if you can discreetly make some of her/your neighbours aware.

As for the court thing-don't worry. That will be more of a threat to her than you if you decide to go legal...

Put a bill through her next door neighbour's "by mistake" - the neighbour will drop it round to your ex-custy - your ex-custy may not pay but they will hate the fact that their neighbour knows they've bumped the window cleaner for payment.
It's a game of three halves!

WRITE IT OFF AND MOVE ON!

she obviously has no intention of paying.luckily its not something that happens very often to me.i think this year its around £60 ive had to write off due to moving/dying.

the last one i can remember where i kept getting fobbed off was a £25 debt(one clean)last year.i just dumped it and concentrated on the 99.99% of customers that pay!

its not worth getting stressed about it for £30!
price higher/work harder!

Agree with Dazmond there comes a time when its just better to walk away, learn by it and don't
let anybody your not sure off run up three cleans without payment.
