farm house window frames black dots
« on: October 20, 2014, 04:19:17 pm »
has anyone else seen this,    a farm house wanted me to quote them ,  small black dots appear on there window frames occasionally,
she says it may be off the hay or something else.
all small square panes,    told her it would take all day to clean by hand rubbing frames.
done a demo on some bottom windows , told her thats how most would clean them.

she said the last lad they got rid of  didnt use a brush on the end of his pole,  but it looked something like a fsc,  off a pressure washer.,   she said it was loosening paintwork.

i was baffled.

any ideas
i will try a bit of virosol sprayed on wooden frames.
i forgot to take a pic.

No idea what the FSC thing might be but with regards to the fly poo we use g101, virosol was pretty good at removing it but 101 is better, are there cows near by?

The farm and neighbouring properties are always like this until winter they need to be treated like first cleans every time when the flys are about.

We  get them to about 95% spot free during summer 100% spot free winter

I too would say it's fly poop especially if cow's are nearby and will be worst during the summer.
I clean a property with a similar situation close to a meadow that has grazing cow's.
The property I clean has painted Georgian window frames and even cleaning by hand couldn't get rid of it all.
After explaining this to the customer they have accepted it's a consequence of living close to the meadow.
Nice views but plenty of fly poop.

Fly and spider droppings are an absolute nightmare, most of my customers are country houses so any white frames you get it.
Problem is you have to draw a line somewhere as to how thorough you clean them or you'd get little work done in a day and people aren't going to pay extra everytime for it so when I see a house that is particularly bad, I give the frames on the downstairs a scrub with a non scrape scourer and some tfr in a spray bottle then scrub off with the brush and pure water.
I've tried spraying tfr on the frames then scrubbing with the wfp but it doesn't get the marks off, you need to be up close and personal with a scourer/sponge I've found.

TFR won't touch fly poo...

Need to add some g101 to my arsenal  ;)

When using it for this particular problem do you spray on and let it soak for a while or spray onto the brush head and scrub into the frame immediately?

Spray onto the frame, usually give it five mins then quick 'dry scrub' before cleaning window as normal - just rinse more  8)

Nothing touches fly pop except a scrub.

Ask the property owner to lift all blinds and open curtains for you coming , that way you will see every mark.
Also buy a gardiners scraper and use wool pad on it thats all i use and works a treat! Apparently you can use ye scraper directly onto the glass but im always to scared to have a go, plus it works fine without.

I always have fear of putting any metal to glass as it can lead to problems, for fly and insect poop spots spray your preferred solution allow some dwell time then scrub with a damp magic eraser pad as they will just eat them off.

The black spots will be from bats, I've got one that's next to farm land that I've only been to twice but the idiot that worked for me said the first clean was a nightmare. He only used pure and they came up good.
I don't clean frames on the regular clean so hasn't affected me yet.

great replies,    shame she had all the square windows cream,     ill spray some virosol onto frames ,  give them a wee scrub    , prior to wfp clean.             if she dosent like the after clean product i wont cry.,  ive told her it would take a full day to clean every frame, theres around  300  small windows.

Virosol works well on plastic frames but doesn't seem to dissolve the spots on glass for some reason. I've never found G101 as good for shifting blood spots as Virosol.

So far the black spots are - fly poo, spider droppings and bats.

Cow crap IMO.

Not sure how the cows can get their backsides to the roof line of a conny  :-\

Flys are prevalent so as you say could be cow crud regurgitated by the flys  :-X

Fly poope.. I clean a farmhouse and a con on a local
dairy farm every month and its a constant battle especially in the
summer.

Inside the con it comes off quite easy but on the outside its a fecking
nightmare..i spray on washing up liquid and white vinegar and scrub
the frames by hand then wfp afterwards.

I get the frames 90% clean, lucky enough the chaps wife is thankful
I get it that clean as she finds it embarrassing

when I get there four weeks later its like ive never been and I swear blind
they must cover the farmhouse and con with rotting friesen carcasses
to attract the flies just to pee me off. ;D

To be fair they pay me well for my two hours of scrubbing and
with the weather getting cooler and wetter its nowhere as bad
and im almost satisfied with the job when I leave :)

The black spots are almost certainly fly poop. I live in a rural part of Wales and have several farms that I clean, along with houses with white PVC frames that back onto farms. All suffer from black spots which are worst during summer. Spider poop is larger in diameter than fly poop and a lighter colour. Both are difficult to remove. Fly poop tends to appear on the sunny side of properties, as flies congregate in the sun, but not exclusively.

After trying TFR with zero luck I asked on here an was told about G101. Bought some and never looked back. A strongish dilution may be needed on any poop older than 8 weeks. I have a hand sprayer I fill it up with a third G101 and pure or tap water. I keep it on my belt when cleaning affected properties.

I have one farm which is an utter nightmare and this stuff shifts it on a 8 week rotation.

Luckily we are into Autumn and when it gets colder the flies hibernate, so ironically for me some winter cleans can be quicker.

Trust the lads who recommend it - they know what they are talking about. Mind you it's not cheap, so price accordingly.

i used diluted bleach,    cleaned it up,     ive used this on my own upvc frames when i couldnt remove     the dropped red flowers from geraniums, begonias.
scrubbed + scrubbed,      mrs came out and lightly rubbed bleach onto discoloured frames,  waited 5 mins.    lightly rinsed ,  hey presto,        white frames again. ;)
i tried diluted virosol as well,     both same results,      no praise from the owner,    another one who takes what you do for granted.
