Insurance? That nice old guy can easily turn into that old numpty.  I wouldn't pressure wash slate or rosemary tiles, you'll only cause yourself problems.

What are rosemary tiles?

Clay, slippy as poope to walk on

I would have thought you'd want a crawler ladders, soft brush to get the general crap off, and then spray the algo clear and let it do its thing (from what i gather, you wont get instant results using algoclear this way but it will come good in a few weeks when it takes effect)

Personally mate, i know you trying to do a good deed but slate tiles are an arse, slippy and fragile. Chances are you'll break one if not careful, and if your really not careful you'll break yourself

Mates away this weekend, i'll ask him when he's back if you haven't already sorted something

Yeah, id really appreciate any help from someone who's actually done it please.
If he could call me that'd be even better...
Any help greatly appreciated.
thank you Don

Iv done plenty them, i done one last week but they were concrete tiles. You need to get off any detritus (dirt) then treat with algoclear (chemical name  quaternary ammonium) at a dilution rate of 30/1 (stronger if you want it will work quicker but is a waste of chemical really).

Your main problem is access and how to spray, you would need to post pics to solve this. I know plenty of companies that claim that they clean roofs, they get up there, pressure wash it off by taking off the top layer of the tile and the dirt with it (marley (a massive tile producer) actually advise against it). As soon as this is done then algae/moss starts growing straight away.

What else do you want to know?

Danny

That's pretty comprehensive. Thanks Danny.
I'll have a chat with Christ Scott (I hope) and glean what I can and go from there.

No problem.

Chris will tel you the same as what i have told you....at least i hope he does as he taught me what to do  ;D . Whatever chris says go with it, when it comes to cleaning like this, he really knows his stuff.

Personally if i was you i would give chris the job and then go and watch him, he has the equipment, expertise and will teach you at he same time.

Danny

Where is he based?
The job is just outside of Oakham

Southport, about 3 hours away. If their is enough money in the job he will travel as i know he travels further if needs be.

get yourself a fall protection system (rope grab , rope and a harness), learn how to use it and go up and powerhose it if the slates are thick enough

Have you ever walked on a slate roof? Never mind a slate roof that is p**s wet through  ::)roll

Algoclear is the stuff you need but you will need access equipment, whether it be a scaffold tower or an extendable boom. Depending on the size and pitch of the roof you can apply it with a decent pump sprayer or a modified wfp with a nozzle.

Danny

My bad, thought he meant a normal tiled roof, not slate.

Remember to only step on the slate on the joints as its the strongest spot same goes to red clay tiles. The overlap is the strongest point.

Hi all.
I was gonna ring Chris but a mate of Don Kee's called me that morning.
He sounded like he really knew his stuff and talked me through a few things I was thinking.
Thanks for all your help guys, especially Joey for getting Mark to call me.

I'm pretty sure on everything now.
Just got to put my prices in and see what happens.
