I've been asked to clean a slate roof.
It's under some oak trees.
Lichen and normal greeny stuff on it.
What's the best way to get it clean?
And what is a decent price psm please lads?
It's a regular window cleaning customer who doesn't trust many people on his property so wants me to do it been though it's not my area of normal work...

Any help much appreciated please.

If it's easy enough, I'll give it a go.
And it'll be a string to my bow. I actually fancy giving my own roof a bit of a tickle so it'd help me learn.
Certainly not for the money.
I can't see it being a well paid job.

Not sure of the process, but i know using 'algoclear' is part of it!!
Also, slate is quite fragile isn't it? So i'd assume you'd have to know what you're doing...

Have you ever walked on a slate roof? Never mind a slate roof that is p**s wet through 

Algoclear is the stuff you need but you will need access equipment, whether it be a scaffold tower or an extendable boom. Depending on the size and pitch of the roof you can apply it with a decent pump sprayer or a modified wfp with a nozzle.

Iv done plenty them, i done one last week but they were concrete tiles. You need to get off any detritus (dirt) then treat with algoclear (chemical name  quaternary ammonium) at a dilution rate of 30/1 (stronger if you want it will work quicker but is a waste of chemical really).

Your main problem is access and how to spray, you would need to post pics to solve this. I know plenty of companies that claim that they clean roofs, they get up there, pressure wash it off by taking off the top layer of the tile and the dirt with it (marley (a massive tile producer) actually advise against it). As soon as this is done then algae/moss starts growing straight away.
