cheaper alternative to gopro
« on: October 15, 2014, 09:12:20 am »
This is in response to Paul erithwc's post that was locked re the gopro hero for £99 at pc world.
At less than half the price of a white edition (approx £70 ) consider the SJ4000,
A very good review from this guy

has the all important wifi for gutter cam use and fits all gopro mounts.
I have its predecessor the SJ1000 ( for snowboarding and mtn biking, I don't clean gutters ) and found it to be very good only to be let down by rubbish mounts. This latest one has all the features you would need at less than half the cost.

Thanks Gordon.

How does it do with close ups as I didn't notice he said anything about that? I would imagine that checking the condition of the insides of the gutters would need a good close up (macro) focus.

I'd imagine same as the previous version I have. (SJ1000)
Whilst mtn biking I had forgotten to stop recording and put my crash helmet it was attached to in long grass, focused well, the blades of grass were sharp and colourful, could even see a beetle climbing one of the blades of grass !
Gopros are great if you need time lapse photography or 60fps for smooth slow mo and wish to edit or broadcast videos, neither of which are necessary for a gutter cam, they seem a lot of money if that's all you are going to use them for.
The plus side of these little cheap "nopros" is they also have their own built in screen for playback plus now the latest version has wifi to your phone in just the same way as the " leading brand "

Shame I bought one beginning of year for my snowboard trip ( just wanted to dip my toes without splashing out £200) as it was only a few weeks later they brought out this model - better gopro compatible mounts and wifi. At approx £70 gonna get myself one next month anyways  ;)

Thanks.
Just chant..... Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. It's beats chanting Tory Tory or Labour Labour.

No worries then, wasn't suggesting the quality was better just that its half the price and  more than adequate if all your going to do is use it for gutter cleaning
