What happens in Summer?
« on: April 11, 2006, 01:49:15 pm »
I started wfp in October last year.  So, gladly I have seen the worst weather off first, and learned a few things about how to cope in the winter.
But what about Summer?  I'm sure you seasoned wfp-ers have encountered problems.  What can I prepare for?
Yesterday started me thinking about this.  It was a very bright sunny day here, and as I spent most of the day looking up at my brush on the window, as you do, the sun was either directly in my eyes, or reflecting brightly off the incredibly clean windows I presented.  It occured to me that I will need a good pair of sunglasses for a start(tax deductable work wear ;)).
Do the windows dry too quick?  Do you need more water?
Should I wear speedo swimwear? ;D
Cancel that :-[
What should I expect?

in the very hot ive had the water turn to steam on the windows

i just give it a quick spray with water, that cools the glass, then clean as normal

i use a wide-brimmed sun hat (the type surfers and cricketers wear)

extra rinsing on the sunny side of buildings, otherwise the water evaporates away without taking the particles with it. you need to make sure that only pure water is left, hence the extra rinse 8)

More windows open. More garden furniture. From this point of view winter is better. But otherwise great to be out with your shorts on!

Doesn't the cleaning process cool the glass.
I would of thought your time would be more productive spending extra time scrubbing than just spraying the window.

i guess so, it would just be as easy to give a extra scrub

but thats the way i did it last year and it worked well enough

If you wake up and the car/van is covered with yellow spots after a shower over night. Beware you will have Sahara sand or Spanish dust on the windows caused by atmosheric pressure. It gives a porridge type coating when wfping and you will need to double/triple rinse. Until you have gone all round your round.

I've got a hat like a ww2 Japanese soldiers - little peak to the front - side bits which loosely cover the ears and a long bit at the back like a legionnaires kepi to protect your neck.

(As I have full kissable lips ;D I put sunscreen on them so they don't burn!)
It's a game of three halves!

I go along with David@St-Ives.

Little bit more scrubbing seems to cool it down.

Thats all i did

A helper to hold the sun shade while at the same time directing the battery operated fan to keep me cool. Oh and also fetch the ice cold drinks from the cooler in the van ;D ;D ;D
