Annoying!
« on: October 13, 2014, 12:29:32 pm »
After trawling this forum, and the wider internet. I've come to realize there is actually hardly any advice on getting commercial work?

Plenty of advice on canvassing domestic, nothing on commercial.

Are people that secretive about helping others on this issue, or are most people clueless and have no commercial work?

What do you want people to say, is it really that difficult to canvass offices/shops or business and ask for a with comps slip and a name to write to or email?
It is after all only talking to people
I don't mean to be rude, but come on.

Thanks for the response Tony.

I meant more the Argos and the Business Complexes. Not the independent shop on the town street.

Canvass them.  We picked up three factory units in one day at a local industrial estate last week.  We already do two there, was asked to quote for another, and while I was there just cold called another five, getting three of them.  One I have to return when the boss gets back and speak to him.  But I made sure I found out his name.

Another told me that they have their own in-house maintenance team that did their windows, but their windows were minging-filthy, so I will call back on them in a few months.

It's not difficult if you're not shy or frightened of a refusal.

Argos Tesco etc. Steam in there mate. I'm sure as long as you charge less than 4 quid a shop, you'll get loads of work  ;)

Standard sort of shops and middle size firms (50 people employed for example), just walk in with a smile and a visiting card and start talking, or if you have a fear of rejection, write an intro letter.

Just ask. Works for me.

Websites, canvass, word of mouth, cold calling... Just
Common sense mate.
I been in business 4 year now and i still only have around 8-10 all commercial jobs(i dont really try either)
Im more interested in domestic well paid houses to get a constant income before i step up to large commercial jobs.

Some people say commercial isnt always as good as it sounds!

I think its the long haul to get a lot of decent commercial.

EG Every time I pass a school I make a mental note to get the email address for it and add it to my database on Outlook . Then when this database is of a decent size I will be pinging them emails. May take a year to get about 100 on there but the ease of sending 100 emails will be worth the effort now.

Its not hard.
If you want gyms google gyms in you area, find the managers name ring and ask to speak to them to see if they will accept an alternative quote.
The same for nursing homes, the same for resturants/pubs.
Today i gained appointments for 2 gyms and a care home to go and price which is more than becci got me today  :P.

Thanks for the response lads.

I'm not shy to go for it or anything, I canvass domestic all the time. I mean because for commercial it's a lot more price focused, and the guy in charge of the decision doesn't always work at the premises.

Top tip if you want commercial work, approach all the managing agent residential and commercial, these guys can give you loads of work, they  more interested in someone they can trust over price, i do work for about 5 of them.  priced a job last week £385 , it would have taken 2 men about 4 hours, this is normal price.

My last bit of help, just take a look at all those apartments that have been built in the last ten years, they all need window cleaners, find out who manages them and you will find work.
