Yes I have 6 months worth of living expenses banked with TSB earning me 5% interest per year. ;D

Really?! What account is that DeeGee? I can't find anything savings wise for much more than half that rate...?

Does anyone pay themselves a wage?
You'd have to be disciplined but it could help you be more disciplined.
I've done something based very loosely on this in the past but soon got lax again.
It's more like an easily achievable living allowance every week or month. If you earn more don't touch it and if you do less, dip in. It can mean you're less motivated but also less stressed.

I pay myself the basic wage of £660 per month and dividends a couple of times a year. The rest of the money just sits in the account. Never had a winter where we haven't worked.

Basically it pays 5% upto a maximum of £2k per account. You can have 2 accounts per person plus 2 joint accounts, so basically 6 accounts (per couple) x £2k = £12k x 5%.  The conditions are that you must pay in at least £500 per month from a non TSB account so just set up a DD from your current account and send it straight back. :)

I've got all my regulars in the winter, so no problem for me.

I save around £1000 a month and more in the summer. Just for anything I need. New van / Holiday / unexpected tax or bills

30% saved for tax and NI.

3% of my wages goes on learning. This includes books, audio tapes, courses and classes. That 3% a month over a year earns me an extra few zeros to my wages the following year.
