How long on average would you expect a pump to last. Mines apparently a genuine diaphragm pump bought in February and packed in yesterday. Retailer says 45 days warranty.

I would expect well over a year minimum  but I did have one that packed  up in a few months   I thought I was told 3 months warranty   but did not count as they did not fit it but it was yonks ago

Neil - If you are getting no noise from pump it sounds like a motor/electrical fault and not head/diaphragm fault, over the years I've had at least 5 of these pumps fail, and on every occasion I could still hear the motor running

every problem has been head/diaphragm

I presume you have an internal bypass unit which would still be audible even when not pulling trigger as the bypass would be pumping solution around the head

but as you have just bought a new head, then I hope I'm wrong!

When the carbon bushes go,i get no noise from the pump.

Yes, But the pump is far to new for the brushes to have worn that low, and even if they have worn that low it is still a motor fault and not a head fault.

These pumps are now manufactured in Mexico, I had 2 new pumps within 9 months on my Airflex. The brushes seem to wear disproportionally on one side.

the bushes might be your problem ,two of the reasons why extracta went bust was pumps the other vacs
with the pumps it was in the end where the carbon bushes was ,
the shaft sat in a brass bush ,
that brass bush was to soft, so after a few hours work it started to wear out
in turn made the carbon bushes wear very quick
just wonder if there is still a good few of them dodgy ones still about
my turbo had 100 hours on it pump went, new end kit sorted it

You can buy new brushes for about £7. But shuffle won't tell you that. Just look on Google for some that are near the dimensions, you may have to cut them down a bit to fit, but better than £40 for a kit. I have done it twice. But can't remember the sizes as it was a year ago I did the last ones.

Took this advice years ago and its saved me thousands of pounds over the years. "With vac motors and water pumps periodically change the brushes at regular intervals before they completely fail and the motors will last longer". I was going through vac motors at an alarming rate when I changed the brushes when the motor stopped working. But when I started changing vac motor brushes every 400hrs and water pump brushes evey 800hrs the same motors lasted for years.
