Portland stone stairway URGENT HELP NEEDED
« on: September 23, 2014, 11:30:11 am »
We are cleaning a stone staircase at the moment but they still look patchy.
Using hard surface cleaner, ubik 2000, and hand scrubbing as can't get a machine on them.
Where they are pitted etc, there are still dark spots.
Is this just the nature of the stone or can someone recommend a product that will get them spotless.

Thanks in advance
Alan

Have you tried hypo (sodium hypochlorite) think this is safe on most hard surfaces. May be worth just handing Fire till someone else clarifies you can you it as its on stone but I would have thought you should be fine. Maybe use to a mix of 3 parts water 1 part hypo.

Yes I have considered hypo, but they are internal stairs of very upmarket apartments in Mayfair. Not sure will like the aroma.

Are you using a wet vac to remove the cleaning liquid after you scrub them?

No, hand scrubbing and just mopping up with clean water. We are restricted to how much liquid we can put on the stairs as they are open ended and cant afford to have anything dripping into the foyer.
Ive just picked up Prochem QMT Stoneclean, so ill be giving that a shot tomorrow.

That is similar to my staircase in Bulgaria - if you manage to sort the one in Mayfair and then fancy a Busmans Holiday.....

Used the QMT and it came up a treat.
We made a stair form up out of Corex to prevent splashes and got a floor machine on it.
Nice drop of gear.
Client delighted, so I'm delighted.
Thanks everyone for your help.
