I opened up a current account with Lloyd's after having a business account with NatWest. Cost me a small fortune in fees.

All free banking with current account. I pay all the lads etc no problem.

Hi Guys

Was with Abbey (Santander) who were O.K. and cheap but when it came to anything a bit more complex useless.

Currently with Nat West who have been good but would have serious reservations about staying if it's headquarters is in a foreign country.

Cheers

Doug

My business account is under my name, not my business name. Anyone giving me a cheque its is in my name.  I just draw out a wage from it weekly into another current account.

We don't get a lot of cheques, mostly BACS payments or cash.

Doesn't/hasn't effective me getting work with large companies.

Why would you have your business account under your personal name and not in your business name   If the tax man ever decides to look into your business, he will trawl through it like you wouldn't believe.      Or is it just that your bank is ignorant of the fact that it is actually a business account as opposed to a personal account?

Stuart, how? Can't believe that.

I believe you need a separate account for business where by it is in your business name.

I'm looking for a value for money account, not one for free as someone suggested on the previous forum. I'm just not paying what HSBC are asking, just from current standing orders and paying staff it would be in excess of £10 per week I think.

Why? Because I choose to do!

Tax man has seen my accounts, no issues.  One account businesses pay in, and I have have another account for my wages and the lads every week. It's not rocket science.  5 years doing so (had 12 months of free banking with Natwest).

I have nothing to hide.

Everyone to their own.

I understand that you choose too but whats the benefit of having your business account in your own name? you'll still have to pay fee's i presume?

I have paid in cheques with both my business name and my own name into my business account no problem. Still bloody got charged for them though grrr

HSBC, and I agree they are crap.

Get their money for nothing and they're pr1cks for free!

Trouble is I suspect they're all much the same.

SO it's OK to defraud a bank by running a business account through a private account which is free of normal transaction charges?

Why not go the whole hog and simply not declare your cash income to avoid paying income tax?

Apart from banks being "big business" it's no different to us small businesses being "conned" into cleaning extra items for no extra charge. The difference is only in the degree of size. (It hurts when we have provided an honest price and for whatever reason we then end up conceding on an overall price  for a set amount of work for one of a multitude of reasons.)

Whilst I accept nobody likes paying bank charges (or any bills for that matter) and there is an argument for them being too high there are plenty of ways to reduce your business bank charges by running your business bank account in a more efficient way. We expect to be paid for our work-why shouldn't the banks be paid for the work that they do?

There is no law against having your running your business through your current account (in your personal name).  Done it for the last 5 years no trouble, and my bank are aware of it.  I know stacks of others who do the same.

Option 1: Have a business account and pay their charges
Option 2: Open up another current account (in my name) and have no charges?!

Option 2 for me all day long for me. If some wish to only have a business account, fair play, but it's not for everyone. We run and manage our own businesses by whatever means.  If paying in cheques their is no charge.  Saying that we don't have many cheques as we always push BACS payments, which most businesses/domestic customers are happy with.  99% pay by BACS.  Domestic customer usually pay after the clean whilst we are their so we can see it going in our bank.

We have some large chains we do  work for, schools, NHS offices etc not one flinch when we give them bank details.

That's how we receive payments and run our business! Simples.  Not to everyone's taste but its ours!

I had option one for years, cost me a small fortune, then I went for option two ! Since 2006 doesn't cost me a bean, my accountant is fine with it and so are hmrc, the only thing is you have to get cheques paid to your name
