Contract Cleaning
« on: September 14, 2014, 05:17:15 pm »
Anyone any experience of contract cleaning here?

Got the opportunity to price up some work, no idea what to charge.

I know it's not going to be a huge money spinner as a 1 off contract, but interested in looking at it as an opportunity.

You are a nice person. We here in the states are not like that. I have tried for years to form some sort of support for new gutter cleaning services. Everybody is so competitive. They always think that something sneaky is goin on.

There is sufficient work out there for us all and its not as though the site being asked about was ever going to be one of my contracts so why not help out someone.......I wished when I started 30 odd years ago there were sites or people willing to help me out as I like many just had to learn as I went along, glad times change!

Received that quote Terry, thanks very much.

Don't know how you boys make a living at that rate!

Not for me, given the bitching I know that already hoes on at this place regarding cleaning, it's more hassle than it's worth.

Thanks for the help, and if you need the favour returning in the futures don't hesitate.

Hi Simon,

No problem, been in this game 35 years and the rate of return has gone down over time. Its more about numbers of contracts these days and not one or two that makes loads of money as there are simply too many out there who are going in a silly rates and sometimes for nil return. They cant fulfill the contract and end up losing it, trouble is that by then the client feels there rate is the right one so sensible companies go in with sensible prices and are told `you are too expensive`.

On the back of this I diversify with an carpet cleaning and a cleaning consultancy arms to my office cleaning business.

Hi Simon
Been in contract cleaning now for 10 years and everyone thinks you make millions but on a 1 cleaner site, 5 days a week, you're doing well to clear £50 per week in profit. Increasing demand for ISO accreditation, site inspections, RAMS, colour coding pat testing, fidelity insurance etc etc the margins are ridiculous. I was speaking to someone the other day who was looking into starting up their own contract cleaning business and thought that by getting some biz cards and letter heads printing he was on his way!  I can honestly say that if I was starting now from scratch and just doing contract cleaning, I would realistically not make much money until I had 15 contracts +.

Tim
