Hi John, sodium hypochlorite (bleach) should def do the trick in turning it white just has to be used with extreme caution on the rest of the area.

True , dont want to spread it beyond the dot edge  ...  cotton bud and hairdryer ?    what product would have a high concentration ...

Hi John, any brand of household bleach usually contains 5 to 10% which will do the trick.

Hi John, just dab some on the spot and leave it for 5 minutes, no need to use a hairdryer, and just dab the spot no need to soak it as the chlorine will do its work.

You will only turn a tan dot white with bleech if the base colour is white ! I tested a carpet I was cleaning last week and the base colour was black ! I've never seen that before but you learn somthing new every day

Sodium Hypochlorite definitely dissolves wool.

You should try some sod met with a hot hair dryer.

that would be my usual for tea / coffee / brown
but tan  ... doubt it do much  , might try it first though .  Yes conscious of damaging the fibers or changing it to a yellow color which would be no improvement .

That's what i use to use, wife not to happy with me for nicking her hairdryer but i have just got a steam gun off Solutions for around £25, great buy and looks more professional than a hairdryer :)

I would think John is experienced enough to know that you would always neutralize the spot after using the bleach to try and whiten it.

Yeah I have hair dryer and a small black n decker wall paper steamer that they don't make anymore for heat. They both have their pros n cons. I prefer the hairdryer as its a lot less faffing about than a steamer.

Yeah I have never removed fake tan with sod met. Some have lightened, maybe with enough patience and stronger solution might have better luck.

I had already managed expectations so the dot didn't really matter too much to the customer .
I got it to a light yellow ... an improvement anyway , probably better than pure white for this carpet . The domestos did dam all to the tan  , you can be sure if spilled it on your trousers it would go white in ten mins ...
after the domestos i just tried everything .. sod met , sodium hydroxide and a few thing i have no idea whats in them   . Im not sure which lightened it the most really but nothing had a dramatic effect .

Hi John, its worth pointing out that sodium hypochlorite (bleach) dose not have a long shelf life and will degrade in strength over time, so Domestos even though its 5% active can degrade to 1% or less if it has been lying idle over time, sodium hydrochloride has a much lower content of chlorine and will also degrade in strength over time which sometimes can render it useless if its out of date, we often go to a local water treatment company and purchase 10% active sodium hypochlorite as a secret weapon to solve problems like you have mentioned above, but again if its been sitting on a shelf for quiet a while its useless.
