UPDATE ON DONATIONS RE PAUL FRENCH.
« on: April 07, 2006, 06:49:47 pm »
Hi all.

Just to let you know that I gave it a few days over the 31st March to see if any late-comers arrived.

I will post the final total received early next week.

The fund stands at something just over the £200 mark. What I will do next is to pay all the cheques and the one cash donation into my wife's bank account. By far the majority didn't mention flowers. I therefore suggest we just send Mrs french ( Pauls widow ) the money along with a letter of condolance.

Maybe you good folks who donated for got the part about asking you to write flowers yes or no.  One or two did write yes to flowers. I will start a poll for those who donated.. you know who you are to say flowers yes or no. No need to reply.. just vote and I will know what to do as I am bit stumped right now.

Thank you.

Andrew

£200.00 is spot on, but I have misgivings about donating cash for when someone dies; it seems a little bit 'cheap'

Hopefully, Paul would have been covered with life insurance, so she shouldn't need the money.

£200 is a lot of flowers though!  I honestly thought that we'd get in around £80.00.

How about you send her a bunch of flowers and a cheque and in your - no doubt well-worded letter of condolence - you explain your misgivings about sending money, and if it is not wanted, then she donate it to Paul's favourate charity!?

Replied.

In light of what Andrew has e-mailed me, I agree with him that it would be best if we agreed that we (Andrew) sends a bunch of flowers, a letter of condolence from all of us and a cheque for the remaining balance.

If anyone has any objections, they should contact Andrew.

That seems the right balance Andrew.

I am happy to agree with the Flowers/cheque/letter idea.

Once again thanks for putting in the time and effort Andrew, I for one really appreciate what you have done.

Andrew

Again i must thank you for the time & effort that you have put into this.

I think flowers & cheque would be best.

i must dmit i was quite shocked at tosh,s remark of expecting only £80.00. The ammount of people on this forum constantly saying they earn minimum £20.00 - £30.00 per hour imagine if 100 members had donated 1 hours earnings.

How many members read this article 500 - 1000, I work 70 - 80 hours a week trying to turn a small business around, I WAS SLOW TO SEND BUT GOT MY WIFE TO DO IT.

Gary.

Thanks Andrew, I have to say I found the total donated a bit dissapointing to say the least. That's equivalant to 20 of us donating a tenner each. Thank's for every thing. Dai

Think about the recipient - she gets contacted by a complete stranger who is in the same line of work as her husband. This same stranger offers, on behalf of a group of on-line window cleaners who are also strangers to her, condolences, organises donations and will get a cheque/flowers and a letter.

I tell you this - if it happened to me (the donations etc) I'd be bowled over - whether it was fifty quid or five hundred. To be left with the thought that there really are decent people in this world who really care would mean so much to me in a time of grief!

I say don't overdo the flowers - she'll have had enough flowers to open a flower shop by now!

I'm just glad Andrew and his wife have organised this - well done!
It's a game of three halves!

Well done Andrew,
Like a few others I thought we could of collected a bit more than the final total. So much for the big earners, what is just  £10 for these big earners, 20 mins work.
