wfp in my area
« on: April 06, 2006, 01:16:40 am »
Well I've almost got my wfp up and running now just need to get the Ro set up, Scary thing though I picked up my surflo backpack from williamsons pumps today (they are local to me) it was suggested that I could be a pioneer in the area useing wfp on residential, funny enough I also had a conversation with another w/cleaner who stopped today asking if I had heard about a ban on w/cleaners :( he was also unsure that wfp was suitable for residential, I did inform him of the forum for future info on the ban, and to enlighten him on wfp on residential, I do hope it works now, provided a pic of what I have done with pole and backpack comments either way gratefully received.

hey chris,
I just bought my backpack from ebay, well its supposed to be coming today!
Looks like you had a good idea about putting the lever on pole, I'll have to do that. Have you bought a trolley too? I guess it'll be a nightmare carrying that around all day

Chris,
dont panic, wfp works awsome on residential work. We have been using it now for four years. We have tried trolley systems, trailers and van mounts. The best by far for speed is the van mount. We are currently cleaning 10, 3 bed semi homes per hour.

Carl

Chris,

Are you sure you've set your hose up to the best effect?

It looks to me like you've very little hose inbetween the pole and the backpack, which means you'll have to keep moving it all the time.

You should be able to do the front, side and rear of an average semi, just moving the backpack once after you've initially placed the backpack at the house.

Also, the ideal pole hose to use (in my opinion) is Ionics.

I'm pretty sure that's a Gardiner Pole, as I recognise the clear hose (which is difficult to 'nip' shut),  but with Ionics hose it's extremely easy to bend-over and stop the pump; it saves you having to turn the backpack off (and then on) all the time.

Given that it's generally not feasable to use 'extra hose' (although I've tried), with a backpack, Unger poles are excellent as they have the hose on the outside.  This means you have extra-reach with your pole from the backpack as the hose goes from a straight line from the brush head to the back pack, rather than all-the-way through the pole, then to the backpack.

I'd also advise you to get a spare battery.  The battery it comes with is great, but after six or seven months of constant use, without warning, it just dies on you.

Maybe, but I think using Ionic hose, which is really easy to shut your water-flow off, is efficient enough.  If I thought an auto-brush would save me time and water, I'd buy one.

However, I only use a backpack, and there's a place for an auto-brush; I'm sure.  Jeff Brimble swears by them and I've read somewhere that you can get a 20% water saving by using one.

But I prefer just 'bending the hose'.

You just grab a bit of hose and grip it into a u-bend and your water stops.  I do this for lowering or raising the pole, moving the backpack, changing brush-head angles, taking money from a customer; or just having a chat with them.

Also what do you mean by modifying the back back too?  We may change the hose connections, but the backpack doesn't require any modifications.

Remember, 'keep it simple', and you'll have less things that can go wrong.

Ok been out playing today my water is proberly not as pure as it should be I've no idea of what the tds is just that it is  ro water. I can see already how the results from wfp can be very good, and also that windows will require 2 cleans at least before becoming really clean.

Tosh yes your right the hose is to short but I didnt want to spent about  £20 on 30 mtrs of hose when I think I'll only need about 10mtrs so I bought a connecter kit for a fiver instead
The trigger works very well so the only time you need to get to the bottom of the backpack is if you need to change pump speed.
I will be getting a trolly for it and I'm lucky enough to have a brother inlaw who is a welder/fabricater so will be taking the backpack up to him tonight so he knows what to design for me.
Derek what I've done is, taken the bottom connector off the spray lance and put it on the top that can now connect to your pole hose,  on the bottom of the lance I've used a hoselock tap connecter (these seal themselfs no need for any ptfe tape) on the backpack hose I've placed a hoselock water stop so the only water that leaks out when its disconnected is from the botom of the lance about half a teacup.
lace is attached to the pole by cutting a cheap car mat from halfords to size wrapping it round the pole and securing with cable ties then the same with the lance. see below

The pole is 24ft from gardinerpolesystems and was £180.00 the backpack collected from williamsons was £211.00 and I spent about £20 on connecters and bits, so approx £411.00  the water at the moment I'm buying from a local aquatics store at £2.50 for 25ltrs wont be doing that for long though  :D

Yes it will reach town houses quite easilly though I would prefer a lighter pole and that one will eventually only be used when working over 2nd floor.
