Just starting (GULP).
« on: April 04, 2006, 02:42:34 pm »
Hi Guys.
I'm new here so... HI!

I'm just starting a round in the Christchurch / New Forest area, my first day of canvassing tomorrow.
VERY SCARED, I do quite a bit of door knocking other areas but still very scared.

I game plan this thus:
Target the retirement area first (more likely to find them in) and ask if I can clean their windows,
and if not in drop a leaflet into door.

Got new customer sheets printed up to write down there info.

But I'm curious what other people say when canvassing, what do you find works best?

Cheers
Jay.

Hi Im fairly new to.

When canvassing I simply say

"good morning/afternoon/evening I'm a local window cleaning and I'm expanding my round. Would you like a quote for your windows to be cleaned?"

Its short, simple, says what you do and offers your service all in one  ;D

The main thing with canvassing is to keep your head up! for instance on saturday i leafleted about 150 houses it took me 3 hours and only 5 customers (all i fought for!) but as of 2 hours ago i now have an extra 3 customers from the leaflets i dropped into letterboxes of people that werent in! now i feel much better about saturday!

I say pretty much the same thing.

"Hello - We are expanding our window cleaning services in the area. Do you have a window cleaner at the moment?" And then go from there.

The thing with canvassing is that you just have to keep going. Some days I canvass for 2 hours with no interest at all, and then in the last half hour pick up a few new customers which makes it all worth while.

Also... I remember one freezing cold Thursday afternoon in January... I had been canvassing for about 3 hours. I then came to another new road, and thought shall I canvass it or not?   I decided to... No interest at all from the people that were in... I was so cold and thought what a waste of time this afternoon has been...

Then 3 days later got a phone call from a guy who wanted a quote on his house, AND his office... I do both of them now on a regular basis... He lives in the road that I almost walked away from!

Endurance is the key to canvassing!

Hi guys.

Okay did 3 hours thismorning, I'd thought that I would start just by putting flyers in doors, then try some real knocking tomorrow.

When I got home I had a call from a guy asking for his windows to be done and he also gave me 5 other houes that his friends live in, because their old window cleaner had just given up his round.

TOP BANNAH!

Quite happy, 1 house for sure and a possible 5 other signups. = 3 hours of flyer dropping.

:-)

I find with whatever method you use leaflets or doorknocking judge it on time spent and what you gain over the year 1 £10 job = £130 not bad for 20 mins knocking
