Did A newly laid sandstone patio today, builder left it in a bit of a mess





Came up pretty well...





But the customer is disappointed with the colours when dry, too dull !

What products and techniques are available to brighten up the sandstone finish?

I usually swerve sealing but had a loyal customer that same as you wanted the wet look to enhance the colours. It was not cheap but worked very well and still looked good this year.

It goes a long way though Roland and is great stuff. You pay for what you get with this stuff.

You get a 32% discount if you get an acount with them, I havn't tried it, I was just throwing into the mix.

I am always dissapointed after cleaning Indian sandstone, when it has dried out, but I am going to offer the enhancment sealer for a small fee

I sealed over 500m of this stone inside with a Libreron stone oil which the customer bought - it took 9 coats on some of the slabs. Personally I think this stone is pants unless sealed as its green inside a year.

I use Teflon on sandstone...it does not enhance but does a very good job of sealing .

I can't see how much m2 a ltr covers ?

I'm looking at around 40 m2

I used a paint pad and off hand I think a litre does up to 10m but ask Kevin

You are mixing the products up!  There is :

Miracle Enhance & Seal coverage is between 6-95M2 per coat per 946mls.  On most sandstones if applied correctly you will get around 60M2 per litre coverage it costs £36.76 + VAT per litre trade or £131.96 + VAT for a US Gallon which is a saving of £16.  Link Below

Then there is Aqua Mix Enrich N Seal which costs £43.99 for a litre and covers 12-35M2 per coat per 946mls and experience shows that you get 25M2 on Sandstone so the Miracle goes a lot further in fact more than double.  Here is the link to the En&S

Both should be applied sparingly and both need to have the excess wiped off the surface thoroughly after application and penetration or you will end up with a greasy surface.

After looking at photos,
There is a considerable amount of grout on slabs, this will affect the finish.
These areas are liable to be visable on the finished product.
I would first remove grout residue on slabs with a good grout cleaner
we use ltp ( Grimex). With slow speed scrubber with polyproplene brush,

After completing this procedure, completely clean area and leave to dry naturally.
Then apply ltp stone oil. Or similar products stated in earlier posts.

That is a Tough Call    For appearance in my opinion Aqua Mix just has the edge especially if you are only applying one coat but for coverage and longevity together with the guarantee if you have time to apply two coats I would choose Miracle.

With regards to rotary scrubbers, I always imagined these as indoor items, do they work ok on exterior patio's - are they not to rough and uneven ?

Absolutely not I have a team today doing a 46M2 Slate Patio and steps with one and tomorrow a set of Tennis Courts then next week a 514M2 Patio  all with Rotary Scrubbers and Wet Vacs.  Twice as efficient as pressure washers and 10 x less mess
