Not strictly a cleaning question, but what are you guys getting out of your vans im mpg?

Ive recently bought a Vivaro, had it about a week now. Brimmed the tank on first day with £97 of diesel then filled it back up yesterday morning with £28.  Worked out mpg and it came back at 29 mpg. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. £28 to do 140 miles.

That was about 80 miles of motorway and the rest town driving. Nothing heavy footed and cruising at 60 on the motorway

Spec says 32mpg on urban,  42 extra urban and average around 35.  If I could get 35 I would happy but 29 is low. Shame because it's lovely to drive.

I measured it over a short period (so may not be totally accurate) and came up with around 28 mpg from the Trafic.  This was mostly urban(ish) driving whilst fairly heavily laden.  Also, with a ladder and roofrack on so wind resistance lowered the mpg (possibly not such a huge factor with urbanish driving).
However, when I did a very long non-work run a few years ago, the mpg soared.  I'm referring to Gatwick-Darlington which is pretty much all motorway and A1 dual carriageway.

So my old MK2 Ranger at 25-27 mpg with a pre-common rail engine, 4 wheel drive, very low gearing and the aerodynamics of a brick suddenly doesn't look so bad - especially as the MK3 onward can manage 30 mpg !

I went for the 125. Supposed to pull weight better.

Getting 28mpg lol. Hopefully it will increase as the miles go up. So I am told.

Very few vans getting more than 30 to the gallon especially if fully loaded.

My vans never really loaded. Probably no more than 200kg in including myself and then 80ish litres of fuel. I like to keep my fuel tank full

So it's not really fully laden to its payload

Got a Primastar 2.0 115 62 plate always fully loaded with ladders on top as well. A mix of round town and A road driving returns 31-33 mpg in the summer and 28-29 in the winter. I'm getting 500-600 miles out of the tank which is about £100 to fill.

Window cleaning isn't great for fuel economy though. Always loaded to the max constantly stopping and starting, rarely getting the engine to temperature, ladders creating resistence, split charging a second battery and so on.  I had a ranger and I'd be lucky to get 300 miles to the tank.

A very concise post Simon that covers all the angles.
I get 300 - 320 miles from my Ranger running with about 500 kg but it only costs £75 to fill it up. It's all short journeys, many farm tracks and I live quarter of a mile off the road.

When i first bought my 2003 nissan primastar i brimmed the tank ( think it was £110)
I got 670miles... Wich is just over 100miles to £20.

But for a 11 year old van carrying 300ltr tank i dont think that is bad what so ever, i use my dads Audi a4 convertible 6 months a year as he works away so i save money then

My transit connect (lwb 230 tdci 90ps) gets 39-40mpg average. I don't thrash it and rarely go more than 60mph.

I used to run a 3.5t swb high roof iveco daily, the 2.3 96bhp version. It gave me 29mpg average, which i didnt think was bad at all given its shape!

Ducato, about £110 to fill and about 450 miles. I only fill it once a month.
