« on: July 02, 2014, 05:07:13 pm »
I got a phone call this morn asking for price to clean a 3 bed
semi, approx price wthout seeing £20 frst clean and £12-£15 on
a monthly basis.

Oh she says, thing is we have just moved from yorkshire and to
clean our old house similar size it was £4 :o and i cant get over
the price difference she said, anyway to cut a long story short
told her to ring me if interested yah de yah! ::)roll

How does anyone make a living cleaning 3 bed semis for £4
i charge £6-£7 just for the fronts,i just wouldnt bother personally
better off pushing trollies round sainsburys.

The old saying about people from yorkshire being tight,i never

Nothing to do with tight mate. We work our balls off for less. If we don't charge less, some immigrant will. had to quote for an Asian lady today. 3 bed semi. 6 windows, 2 doors. I said £6. She tried bidding me down. Would have it, so F*** her. Not doing a semi for £4. Someone will

Look at the extra as compensation for having to live down south.

All depends on what's the going rate, if all the shiners that have come before you have destroyed
the prices then chances are you wont get much better.
There are good and bad points to charging higher prices, I charge top prices for my area but I have
to offer a first class service or my customers wouldn't be long getting rid.
So I would clean doors sills and frames as well as the glass.
I know a few guys who charge about half of what I would charge and all they do is give the glass a quick wipe.
Sometimes think these guys have the right idea.

I tried to increase the price of a modern 3 bed semi today from £6 up to £7.......They cancelled ;D
I put all the others in the area up £1 from the next clean as well, will soon see if any more cancel.
And before any of the big boys come on and say, how can you make money at these prices, we each averaged over £30 per hour today.

Dave,

It is more than this. We have to contend with what their perception of what a window clean should cost them is. In our area is has stuck at £6.00 for the past 10 years.
Yes, we have been able to push for a little more but its always paid under duress.  It gets worse in a couple of surrounding villages where the perceived price is around £4.00.

And yes they still drink and smoke and the cost of groceries and fuel will be similar to your area.

There is a windie working one of the villages near us which comprises of 2 long streets with terraced street houses. This chap charges £2.00 a front of 2 windows and a front door. He won't do any rear windows, only fronts. He has 86 customers and completes the job in 4-5 hours. He will never get any competition coming in at those prices and for him this is a good days return.

It would take him another day to collect it.

I like to think I charge accordingly for my services, obviously one customer today thought I charge too much ;D
If I were to charge what some do on here, I would have to wear a mask :P
