I have tried everything known to man  but I find Prochem Ultrapac Renovate to be the dogs and I will also use some Prochem Citrus Gel with it if it's really bad and works a treat.

Always pre-warn a customer what they are and that their is a small chance of removing them and tell them after that they will come back.

I'm coming round to the conclusion that draft mark removal should be quoted separately (extra) from the standard cleaning charge.

I know what you saying David but the trouble is customers will expect it to be part of the job when you turn up and will think you are pulling a fast one. If you go out to quote and not quote over the phone like me you could add a bit extra onto the job and explain to them that the job will take a little longer than normal because of the draft marks. I once had a massive full house with this problem and I fully removed them but it took a couple of hours just for the draft marks!

I get quite a few, I just explain that these marks come from underneath the carpet and there is only so much one can do to rectify the problem, I normally use filter out but explain to the customer they are very likely to return

Agreed.

I always point out draft marks and say how difficult they are to remove, and that I'll do my best.

But, some draft marks you just know aren't coming out without a hell of a lot of effort.  As long as I've set the correct expectation prior to cleaning this is not a problem - BUT, I know I could do a far better job - but at what cost in my time and expense!  I want the customer to pay for that.

Really do. Ultra PAC or I find prochems stain pro works a treat. Also I there's a laundry soap,the name will come to me. It's one your granny use to use, you can get it in tesco, works great on draught marks

I think if you are doing draught marks thats where the top dollor really comes in . I am not very keen on Ultrapac renovate it makes my hands sore  and it is a hands and knees job , along with skirting boards etc and Its kind of pinky Perhaps it works better with a truckmount

Draught marks are a daily encounter you should not behaving trouble removing  them.
They are caused in the majority by the dust being filtered out by the carpet pile ( such as draughts under doors caused by convection, or the airflow under floorboards penetrating the perimeter of the room.). The time that it comes through the backing is when the knee kicker pierces the carpet backing, these are a little more difficult to remove as they will be the full lenth of the pile with the concentration of the dust at the bottom of the pile.
Brushing in some ultrapac should remedy the situation easily enough. Ultrapac does require quite a lot of flushing.
 If it is around the perimeter of the carpet when fitted on floor boards a crevice tool is a good investment and something that every professional should be carrying.
In addition to a battery sprayer I also carry 5 ltr sprayer with a concentrated prespray mixture for such areas.

The yanks swear by fels bar for draught marks, I have a few of these bars and yes they do a good job, but of flushing afterwards do.

I explain that they will lighten on cleaning , but will return due to the ventilation of air and dust particles being filtrated through the fibre .

If I have to remove them I use shockwave heavily sprayed then agitated and finish of with prochem filter out .

I always tell the customer in my preamble what the draft marks are and how it is formed and that full removal may not always be possible - if I get good results the customer is even happier.

One Ive not tried is Ultrapac Renovate.....but will give it a go.

The subject actually throws up another issue and one I have toyed with......the extra charge for this work! This week I spent more time on an elderly couples draught marks than I did the rest of the carpet clean! Quote was given over the phone so will be incorporating "the cost may alter if you have severe draft marks........" in the future!!

The problem is, if you start charging for removing draft marks, then you increase the expectation of you fully removing them which, with the best will in the world may not be possible and then you have a problem on your hands.
The best way of approaching this issue is as has already been stated, as once the problem is explained to people they readily accept that doing what you can with them is the best they can hope for, especially as they will return in time.

Terry - Ultrapac Renovate is well worth keeping on board as it's also fantastic when you have problems with a chimney sweep or fireplace problems ect ( UP is great on any carbon type problems ie if you have an oil patch use citrus gel but if the oil is heavily used oil then UP will help also because of the carbon present ). I have used it many times on fire restoration jobs too and it's great for some hard floor situations also, especially the rubber marks you get on vinyl floors.

Solutions RX is good, but it's so damn expensive.....
Ultrapac usually does the job.
Like a others say, if you charge extra to remove them, custy may expect a perfect job....

Tricky one as some custys may be having carpet cleaned purely because of the draft marks, so expectations may be high.
