Guy in town cleaning from a ladder three storeys. Is he doing anything wrong or can he do what he likes if self employed?

If he's trad without wfp in his van then yes of course he can, a lot around my way do 3 storey off of a triple ladder, I never would.

I have previously done a  3 storey off a ladder, but only when the job was all on grass and the ladder was under the sill and going no where, I only do jobs that I feel safe, normally I don't do them.

I thought I would start by taking the 3 stories. Thinking I wouldn't be treading on the trad guys work. They all do 3 story off ladders. So screw them all, canvass the lot. Wouldn't get me up that high. I thought 6 metres was the max height they could work at

theres a guy in Colchester that does this even seen him stood on the second off last step !!!! hanging on  to the gutter so he doesn't fall !

so after having a long chat with the owner of the said company about the duty of care law , and a good old under cut on the price ive now got the work    on one hand ive took money out of his pocket but with the other hand ive saved his life

he was charging a lot of money and it was far to much ! so went in at what I we would be happy to clean at , which was lower then he was charging wasn't a intended undercut ,

 that came from the half price carpet cleaning they will get as a reg window cleaning customer lol

Three-storey work off ladders = hard work and time consuming.

Three-story work with wfp = easy peasy and quick.

Of course we can charge less for this kind of work and still make a very good hourly rate.  This should be an incentive to trad window cleaners to make the move.

And of course, as almost a fringe benefit, it's a heck of a lot safer.

for him and his employer tosh , I would like to see which way a court would go under the duty of care law ? if he fall off and killed himself , if the owner of the company knew there was a safer way of cleaning the windows would he then be at wrong for not going with the safer way ?

There's a couple of cleaners I see down Lethe grove off beerchurch that clean all of the flats off ladders, there's no way I would do them.

Kind of makes the health and safety law a bit of an arse surely?

My customers think I use wfp because health and safety prevents ladder use. I even explain the reason I squirt their windows is because I'm not supposed to be up ladders anymore, then they see a guy three storeys up cleaning, the insulation guys drilling up to the gable ends, gutter installers working off ladders - has the law changed recently have guidelines been relaxed?

I was chatting to a guy yesterday cleaning fascia boards down (with a paint brush) he said he loved ladders. 78 years old!
