« on: April 01, 2006, 05:51:02 pm »
water going in at around 425ppm coming out at around 6ppm normally.
This morning going in at around 425 coming out at around 6.This afternoon going in at 425 coming out at around 35?. Can anyone tell me how quick or how slow do ro membranes deteriorate. merlin only been running about 6 months turning out about 500  to 600 ltrs a week say 26 to 28 weeks total 15,000 to 16,000 ltrs.

I dont have a merlin, but have you changed the prefilter/s? I know with my ro that the carbon prefilters take out the chlorine, but mine only last 6 months no matter how much or little water's gone through them, after 6 months they dont remove the chlorine and then the chlorine attacks the membranes.
Someone else will be along soon who has a merlin and will give a better explaination.

You'll need to change the prefilter (every 3 to 6 months) otherwise chlorine may get through and burn the membranes, also if your water pressure is low the membranes don't get flushed efficiently and can cause depositing on the membranes.

you should only need to change the prefilter, however if that doesn't help then you will need to change the membranes also, don't forget that the merlin needs to be backflushed at least once every 6 months.

I will ask first, how do you back flush the merlin?

Hi Mike to backflush the merlin you need a kit from www.gapswater.co.uk it uses permeate to flush the membranes removing any built up deposits.  I only mentioned that the membranes can become damaged if chlorine can get through, look after it and it will look after you.
